Stuff stolen at dealership!!!

Ok heres the story. I traded in the vic........ I know, she will be missed. I still had my stereo stuff in the car, they allowed me a couple days to get over there and to take my stuff out, the dealer had the keys and everything, they said they wouldnt touch it till I was finished with it. Well I went over tonight and opened my trunk to find my amps and EQ were stolen. I checked the car over and there are no signs of a forced entry at all, the stuff was in the trunk and the trunk level was locked, so where the back seats. I asked the dealership if anyone had been in the car or took the keys. They said the keys were on the rack and that no one has been in the car. I can only think that someone at the dealership stole it.

Now legally do I have grounds to ask them to pay me the replacement value of the stuff that was stolen?

thanks for any quick responses

If nobody saw anything, you're out of luck. It sucks, but one of the employees most likely took your stuff. That's why I'm always worried about leaving my car anywhere.

But check with them about cameras and report the theft to the police and Honda headquarters. They'll give the dealership trouble about it.

Sorry to hear that man. If you don't have proof that you had the stuff in the car when you dropped it off or if there is no security footage of someone getting into the trunk, I'm afraid you're kinda screwed for the stuff. Do what gearbox says though, give them hassle over it.

Well I went to the dealership today and filed the police report. I also spoke with the General manager and I explained everything to him. He said he will look into everything and get back to me in about a week about replacing the stuff. The other strange thing is I asked today for the spare set of keys and they couldnt locate them. So it was pretty much an inside job, someone had to have had the keys to be able to get into the trunk. Of course no cameras on the lot, just on the inside of the building. I have proof of the stuff being in the car, I have the receipts and stuff. Just no proof of someone going into the car

well unless they have a sign that says "we are not responsible for items left in the car", then they are responsible. I would make them pay.

trust me i work at honda. i know just about everyone there. none of them look like thiefts but stuff is missing all the time. and yes we have tons of signs that say, "we are not responsible for any lost property" if u trade in a car. they turn it back to stock. meaning anything in the car that didn't come on it stock is fair game. we do that all the time. we are aloud to take anything as long as we replace it. cd players, speakers, occasianly rims, and my friend got some 01 integra taillights. if you left it, i hate to tell you but that is your own mistake. writing a police report is useless. the stuff will not be returned and if there is a sign saying their not responnsilble them you cant sue for it.

I didnt trade it to them and tell them to return it to stock. They wanted to sell me the car. I told them I have stuff in there that I needed to get out first. They said not to worry because they would not touch the car till I got my stuff. So in all fairness they had no right to remove anything till the car was prepared for them to take over, since with their permission the stuff was left in the car under their supervision. No where do they have posted signs that about "we are not responsible for any lost property". I know writing the police report was useless but if they decide to pay me and file a claim with thier insurance then they would need the police report for that
