meter maid offered to "take back" my ticket.
after this morning, i still dont know if i should be really happy or did i get just get screwed?
I left the house at 9 this morning, as usualy to move my car becuase of street cleaning. when i got to my truck, i had a ticket with the time stamped of 9;00 am! The time on my watche said 2 minuties before 9 and the street cleaning thing didnt even pass by yet. I look down 2 streets and see the metermaid parked and just chatting with the utilities ppl. I chased the metermaid in my truck hoping to protest the that she gave me the ticket at the wrong time.
when i got to her the dialogue went like this:
me: hey did you issue me this ticket?
her: yes, i did!
me: i need to know, the time issued here said 9:00 am and i know i was out of my house before 9:00am AND the street cleaners dont come until the designated times of 9:00am. how do you justify this ticket?
her: well, when i print the ticket i go accordingly to the machine's time and at the moment it said 9:00am.
me: well i guess there is no way around it, right?, i cant argue with the machine.
her: (she reaches over and grabs the ticket from my hand, folds it in half and tosses it in the back seat). well, if you didnt want the ticket, you can always ask. Nobody ever asks me if i can take the ticket. Ill take it back.
me: you can do that? i'm not going to recieve it in the mail?
her: sure i can take it back, and if you get a ticket again and see me, just holla out, "hey pam, can you take this ticket back".
me: (at this point, i felt like an *** for being pissed off, and offered her my business card) you just maid my day today then. thanks pam.
her: you have a good day sweetie.
i just hopped in truck and drove off.
when i reached the next stop light she was right next to me and just reassured me again, to have a good day sweetie.
now that i looked back, i dont think they can take back tickets if they were already electronically printed out. AND my dumbas$ didnt get her badge# nor the citation #.
so at this point, either she's really nice or really slick and avoided a confrontation.
you guys know anything about this?
im from san francisco county

same here... hmm. i would think there's a certain record on that darn machine that chugs out the tickets.
and they'll have to have that log later at the end of the day or something.
but maybe its based on the judgement of the meter person too. so... *shrug*

Lol to that. Over here, once a ticket is written that's it. It's already been submitted and they have a record of it being issued. I know because my friend got told that if they're still writing then they could stop. But if it's been issued, there's nothing they can do.

lol, reminds me of when i was being issued a ticket at school. I was backed in a metered spot and my time had long since past. I was walking out to my car and saw the lady putting tickets on windshields. She reached my car before I could. When I got there she was behind my car writing down my license plate number. I didn't say anything to her, she didn't even notice i walked to the drivers side door. I just got in and drove off. I looked in the rearview as i pulled away and saw her throw her arms up trying to get my attention. Yeah like I'm going to willingly stop and let you issue me a parking ticket.
Never got the ticket so oh well.

i have probably like $500 in tickets from school (teeeeeeeeny tiny campus), and i haven't paid one. it all started the first week of school when i parked in a fire lane but i had an excuse and they KNEW it before i even parked there.
soon after, i found that like half the upperclassmen I know have never paid a ticket and they know several graduates who never did either.
on the ticket it says that if you don't pay, they'll transfer the ticket to the state...but it never happened. apparently they also threaten to put a stop on your ability to register for the next semester, but both semesters I registered without a problem.
I'll try not to get any next year, just to be on the safe side (haha, a year later) but i don't plan on paying those tickets until someone tells me to.
pubsafe is a bunch of idiots anyway, they act like they're all little sheriffs of their own little town and are all complete a-holes...ticketing is their only daytime/outdoor activity. how sad.

^^nicely done
i just got off the phone with DPT (dept of parking and traffic) to file a complaint. I explained to her how my ticket wasnt valid becuase the time on issued can not be possibly right. The operator said the metermaids have no control over what time the issued can be. Its all on the computer. So then whats my complaint??
i brought up the fact that the metermaid even offered to take back the ticket and asked if they have teh authority to do that. The operator stuttered a couple of times and said yes and no. They are not supposed to but for legality issues they can. So we'll just see if the ticket will come by mail. Only then i can protest it.
I asked what reassurancs do i have to if i filled a protest. the operator said none and laughed. I laughed too and said either way i can be screwed. Its my word versus a computers word, right? Yeah she said. Then she said i should be thankful for her generosity. I said yeah you could be right or she could be really sarcastic and avoided a confrontation.
So well just have to see if it comes by mail. And if it does, my boss will even back me up. My boss is pretty deep into city and neighborhood politics so she'll help me out about crooked cops. The issued time is supposed to be at 9am but how can that be when im at work at 9am. I have coworkers as witnesses taht im at work if it comes down to that.
but today i learned that there are discrepencies in the dpt. Either they can or cannot take tickets back. I know the excuse is that onces its in, its set in stone. But cant they erase it the one entry and give a valid reason?? such a reason, in my case, is to issue a ticket before its designated time. And my boss is pretty gungho about that being ILLEGAL.
ill keep you all posted.
and btw, she's pretty old and busted looking

so today, (the next day from yesterday), i flagged down another metermaid to ask her about ticketing policy....
she was pretty nice actually. I asked her are you(metermaids) allowed to take back tickets. She said no, we cant retrack tickets unless they are given out by mistake. We dont have the code to erase a log. Only supervisors can.
I asked about the timestamp issue and she said the computer can only print out tickets according to the internal clock. NObody can tamper with the clock BUT the computers can be calibrated at the begining of the day. This means one termininal doesnt not necessarily mean all terminals are all in sync. INteresting......
so she showed me the ticket she just issued out and the time said 1159 implying she had no control over time. But when i mentioned the ticket i recieved was 9:00 am on the dot and street cleaning began exactly at 9:00 am, she cut me off. She said they're not supposed to begin ticketing until 10 minutes after the designated time. She wasnt supposed to do taht. And when i mentioned i chased her down and asked her about, and told her she offered to take it back, the lady said she should ahve taken it back, it wasnt a valid ticket.
All tickets that are to be voided are to be returned to the supervisor so they can account and delete from the log at the end of the day. I wonder what her supervisor will say to a ticket issued before the designated time and a time posted earlier than pacific standard time.
ill keep you updated
i hope i dont get it in the mail. but the lady told me most likely i wont get it if the lady who issed the ticket cherished her own @ss.

Before reading your last post I was going to say they can take them back. My friend was the girl who would sit there and go through logs and delete the needed ones(and yes she has helped me out in the past). Basically she said that if a metermaid gives a ticket and a mistake is brought to their attention they just take the ticket back. Once they are back at the office they fill out a short form and pass it on to their suporvisor who then takes care of it. The ticket printing machines are always meesed up when it come to the time and other details and instead of arguing they get the ticket voided.

homerS: thanks for your input, it really dampens the doubt i have with our city and its enforcement agency.
i told my cousin the incident and told me about his. Some cop, not metermad, gave him a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt. 50 dollar fine. The cop offered an alternative payment method. Since my cousin owns a bar, the cop wanted a bottle of wine. Phuk that!, my cousin just paid the fine rather than support a bribe.

btw goodpost on the metermaid stuff. interesting to kno that they cant issue or arent supposed to issue a ticket until 10 minutes after the designated time. that gives me about 9 minutes and 55 seconds to sleep longer everyday before i hafta move my car for street cleaning -__^
oh, and u shouldnt get a ticket in the mail because she probably gave it to the supervisor *knock on wood*
