Hi group!

My 2010 Civic was wrecked the other day, and I have been looking for an inexpensive Civic to put the Engine/Transmission into. R18a automatic trans.

i found a 2005 Civic with a blown head—d17a—and wondered if this was a direct fit, or problematic choice?

So, an 8th gen into a 7th gen..

not going to work without a lot of custom fab work and headaches.

find an 8th gen with a blown engine, shouldn't be too hard

D17 has a mechanical cable driven throttle body. R18 is drive by wire, electronically governed. Meaning that the R18 ecu is expecting to position the throttle /read the TPS. I doubt it would be very happy with no communication to the throttle body.

Possible? Yes. However, as previously stated, it would be a lot of work and quite expensive because a lot of custom parts would be needed. You would be better off finding an 8th gen with a blown engine and putting your engine in. Hope this helps

Thank you. I have been looking for an 8th gen and the only one I found is over 300 miles away. So not to many around—I’m in a rural area. I did find an 8th gen Hybrid, but that is probably not an option.

A hybrid is definitely not an option for a quick and easy swap. If you still have your donor car and you don't mind a very long project swapping everything over to make it work (subframe, mounts, lots of wiring, ECU, radiator, hoses, gauge cluster, shifter, AC lines, etc) then you should be able to make it work with not much more than the parts you have on your wrecked car, but it will be a lot of work and very time consuming. It would take a lot more time and work than it would be worth IMO.

However, depending on how badly your car is wrecked, you could possibly buy the hybrid as a donor to fix your car if you still have it. Hope this helps

Yes, I had thought it would be difficult—even without knowing everything you listed. I will keep looking for a direct swap. Sent a message to the one person I found selling a 8th gen, with a wrecked motor, but have not heard back.
