Is it dangerious to drive on a bad Throttle Posistion Sensor

Hello there,

My check engine light for the TPS is on and I'm curious if it is dangerous to drive my car? I can't get into the shop for about a week.

Thanks,
Lorne

If we're talking about a 7th gen civic then no, but the down side is you have to replace the entire throttle body because the TPS is rivated to the throttle body.

Yea it's a 2005 Civic DX. That's 7th Gen right?

All the dealers around me wanted $270, but I went to Honda Parts Now and saved $90! For the Throttle Body and Gasket.

Nice!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Those aren't actually rivets.
They are "break away screws", and are supposed to be tamper proof.
They can be unscrewed with a chisel or punch and a hammer, if you really want to try.

I have seen TPS sensors available-- separate from the throttle body, on the internet.
The biggest issue for the average parts replacer is getting it adjusted correctly. The PCM can be rather finicky about this.

Too late now, I guess.
HTH anyway.

Good to know. I thought they were rivets. Thanks for the info.

Hope you bought the right part. Honda Parts Now has the throttle body listed for $243.41 and the throttle body gasket is listed in the intake section for $11.35. If you saved the $90 off the $270 then it would like you bought the VALVE SET, ROTARY AIR CONTROL for $181.55, which does come with a gasket and is part of the throttle body assembly, but is not the throttle body assembly or the TPS.

HTH
