catback + magnaflow
catback + magnaflow
I was wondering if I need to upgrade my header in order to use a full cat back magnaflow ? Coz the guy at the counter tells me to do it...but somehow i feel he just wants to sell.
Can anybody confirm me if I need to upgrade the header or magnaflow cat back are bolt on? if so, what brand could i use and will i need to change other parts? ( o2 plug,etc.. )
I have a honda civic 2005 LX d17a1 stock,automatic, with AEM V2 intake.
Thinking to get a cat back Magnaflow.

Re: catback + magnaflow
yea man, u have a civic. dont expect anythign more than a few hp without an a/f and timing tune.
headers are really unnecessary for a civic and its more about braggin rights imo.

i know this sound ''newb'' but what's an a/f ?
hmmmm i think ill try that rather than looking on my rusted headers. anybody has a brand of header that goes bolt on direct with a o2 sensor plug hole ? sorry if this didnt sound right, but this is my first header change.

Re: catback + magnaflow
i also have a megnaflow cat. back question and thought i'd rope it in, instead of starting a new thread. i'v got an Si-G with the d17a2. i have a K&n short ram and the megnaflow cat. back is going on tomorrow. is it true that the stock header is 2inch and matches the size of the head and the stock cat. is smaller? if so will i need a matching 2.25inch hiflow cat. to reach the full potential of the megnaflow exhaust? will i see any performance with just the intake and exhaust after resetting the ecu, even 1 hp or increase in torque (i know D17a2 plus bolt on's = almost nothing)?

My reasoning is many people bolt on a cat back exhaust from the factory cat, for the most part the cat back has larger pipes, technically the factory cat robs the car of HP anyway, so the aftermarket cat back is just a little HP gains anyway.
Re: catback + magnaflow
A/F is refering to the air/fuel ratio. And to do that you have to have a new ecu management system. And most aftermarket headers come with the 02 sensor bunges. Some good brands are megan racing, dc sport, buddyclub, vibrant, strup. If kiddracing made a header for your car then I would say that is your best bet but I dont think they do.
Re: catback + magnaflow
Hey i'm getting some work done to my car, Megan header, aem short ram intake, magnaflow hi flow cat and cat back exhaust, how much power gain do you think i'll get out of it, its an 02 civic dx.
Re: catback + magnaflow
Probably not much since you have the d17. I would say like 12-15 whp maybe.
Re: catback + magnaflow
Yeah i was told by a few people i'd get like 15-20 flywheel hp, and like around 5-7 lb/ft of torque aswell from the exhaust and maybe a little from the header...what's the deal with these d17 engines, are they just poorly made?
Re: catback + magnaflow
either way i dont think im gonna be doin anything else to the car...i guess we'll see how it improves when i get the work done. I mean the only other thing to do if i wanted a big improvement is forced induction, either turbo or supercharger which is just crazy money.
Re: catback + magnaflow
the d17a2 isn't a bad engine in my eyes because it does what it's meant to do. it was designed for low emissions, low fuel consumption and reliability. it wasn't designed for power which would require more fuel. i love it because i'm forced to drive far for school every week, where i spend $10 a day driving, others are looking at $25. and even doing what it was designed for i find mine fun to drive. just say'in is all.
