Question Not a covered swap question

Alright guys i have a '90 hatch with no motor gathering dust and 2 complete d17a2 motors, ecus, and trannys. Anyone have knowledge of this being done? I thought I would try to get some info from here first. I'm sure i'll just end up having to get the cherry picker and lower it down in there and go from there. If memory serves me I think I remember the d15 tranny mounting to the d17. I have a good d15 tranny if that would make fitment and axles easier.

thanks

I don't believe any older d-series trannies will mate up to a d17 block. I vote go for it. You may run into some problems with the electronics and harnesses and stuff of that sort, you will probably need an engine and dash harness from the d17, but it should be possible. You will have to make custom mounts too, but it shouldn't be that bad.

Re: Not a covered swap question

thats what i figured on the mounts and I have a complete harness from the EX that the engine, tranny, and ecu came from so that should eliminate that issue.

CanadianCivic02 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Not a covered swap question

dont think it would work, the d17s have alot more sensors and those sensors = pain in the ***

it would just be better to get an older d15 and swaping it in

Granted the older motor would be much easier, the if you have the whole harness, ecu and engine, the sensors shouldn't really be an issue. The only situation where this swap is practical on any sort of level is if you have an older motor-less car sitting around along with the engine and stuff. This seems to be your situation so I say go for it.

Re: Not a covered swap question

what does that have to do with anything when i am using the entire a2 engine, transmission, ecu, and harness. the only things are i wont hook up abs, srs, things of that sort. i would be using all the engine sensor because i would be using the ecu for it. i know as far as connecting the clutch linkage that will be custom. also get the speedo and guages to read might be another issue. if so i'll just do a custom instrument cluster.
