Re: New turbo install has begun
Well saturday is the day of troof.
I seriously ****ing hate our fuel systems. This pos system was entirely not intended for boost or high fuel pressure. I swear, you get down under 1/4 tank and the ****er detonates from lean conditions. Only REAL way around it is a fuel cell and a mack daddy bosch pump. But I'll just have to keep a closer eye on my fuel level.
Looks like I'm going to replace the headgasket tonight. A few weeks ago, I was getting lean afr's under boost and wasn't sure why. I noticed my fuel pressure was a few psi low, even at idle, so I filled the tank to see what would happen and the fuel pressure leveled off where it should have been. But now I'm having escessive oil blow by out the breather. No coolant loss, but the oil is the tell all. So it looks like I'll be tearing the ****er down tonight to put a new headgasket in it. Just got to make sure to watch the fuel level like a hawk. 475 whp, here I come!

Well yes, bigger piping size can result in a larger pressure drop than a smaller pipe, if we're talking intercooler pipes. But you have to remember that power is relevant. Ultimately, you want as little restriction as possible. But 4" piping on a small t3/t4 would be stupid. Just like 2" piping for my gt30 and power numbers isn't as efficient as 2.5" would be. It's all relevant, the goal is to properly match every part of the setup to the rest.

Re: New turbo install has begun
Maybe if I was running -10AN lines, but I'm only running -6. The problem occurs when your feed and return lines are mismatched by too much.
Nevertheless, Paul and I replaced the headgasket tonight. It was about a 3 1/2 hour job, which is quite a feat for my engine. Amazingly, the headgasket was tip top, even after beating the **** out of it and tuning to 430 whp. Just goes to show the OEM headgaskets are stout enough to handle whatever you throw at them IF you have a SAFE tune!
