Yep, that's a proper wideband and display. I bought this model from Andyman

300150749764

But the AEM is the basically the same thing. You can buy this other PLX one

300152394216

AND get a free T-shirt! But either one of those three will do the trick.

You'll have to get the map off the car. Basically have the laptop plugged in, bring up the AEM software display the AFR map table and take a screen shot of it.

Contrary to what other folks think, I still feel your mechanic is doing right by you.

Yes, too lean means too much air. Stoich is 14.72 which is what you should idle at. At 5 psi at WOT (wide open throttle) you should be right around 11.5 IIRC. I still say HG was either improperly installed/torqued down or it was faulty.

hmm thanks so much for that write up .. i think i have to save for that wideband .. could i use the autometer one for now .. till i save a couple 100 bux .. im broke .. i really do think it was a faulty head gasket or w/e .. i doubt my tuner went too lean on the tune, i mean why would he? he's the most popular, and everyone says he's the best, if he was gona boost too lean and blow a HG i doubt he would have that status lol ... i told my mechanic about the torquing and this and that .. and he said he knows... Would the ARP head studs make the headgasket tighter? what exactly is the purpose of this ? why is it the most popular upgrade.. car's at the shop .... should i actually get a laptop and take a screen shot ??? or forget it?

ARP bolts are stronger than the stock bolts and don't stretch. Thereby you won't get any head lift under boost. Which means you won't pop another head gasket.

Just return that A/F gauge. It will cause you electrical issues if you install it.

I wouldn't worry about the maps until it's tuned or the car does it again. If this guys is good like you say he is, then you shouldn't have to worry.

Re: Need your help... TURBO gone wrong

The headgasket CAN still go even with ARP studs. The bolts/studs don't stretch from detonation, but the head does lift. The big plus to arp studs over oem bolts is they are re-useable. OEM head bolts CAN stretch from reuse.

I am going to give you the best advice you will ever get. Get the car in running condition again. Do NOT tune for boost. Tune for normal driving conditions. Remove the charge pipe from the intake manifold. Rig a filter onto the throttle body. SAVE more money. Get a wideband gauge. Save so that if something breaks, you can fix it and you can afford to tune. While you're saving, ask around about tuners and get some information. Ask people questions, get on local forums, find out who has a good rep. Then, when you know you have a good tuner and are confident in them and you've installed your wideband, go get tuned.

Otherwise, without a wideband, you have no idea what your a/f ratio is and you could pop another gasket within a day and have to go through all of this again. Learn something now, don't shortcut something you must have.
