HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
I need some help quick. I went to get my emissions done on my k20a2 EM2 and there is a connection issue for my OBD2 and the ECU. The DEQ emissions computer could not connect with my cars computer, and therefore failed the test. I looked for any obvious disconnected wires and have not seen anything. I am running the RSX-S ECU (PRB), with HASport wiring harnesses installed at a reputable shop. I need ANYONES help or experience with anything related to this topic, as this is my daily driver and I need to pass my emissions. ALL help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys and let the suggestions start flowing in!!

have you tried calling HASsport? perhaps there is something in their harness that they leave undone that needs to be hooked up to bring obd2 online again.

True, I will call them to check. I have until the end of May to get this resolved, but it isnt really something I can check to see if Ive fixed it.

do obd2 scanners work? can you read your IM's? get the pin out to the obd2 connector and make sure you have power and ground where you should and that the data pin is in the correct location.

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
The OBD2 Actron scanner I used at Advanced Autoparts said that it connected, and that I had no new codes. And my boys $10,000 scanner at their shop read that I had no codes either, so I believe that it connected OK with those. But for some reason, the DEQ software cannot connect directly. The manager went into "Connection Diagnostics" and said he could see my values, but that he couldnt connect for the test portion of the DEQ software. And it isnt their computer because it was having no problems checking everyone elses.

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
I called HASport, and the K-series guy told me that for my application, their wiring harness doesnt change anything between my OBD2 port and the ECU. So, from this the wiring should be stock between these two points. I need to check to make sure that the ECU is not a JDM computer, otherwise it will not pass emissions. Maybe this has sparked some new ideas.....ANYONE??

Are you saying to do this with KPro?? Because I have a stock ECU, not the Hondata KPro. If what you are talking about is for the stock ECU, please tell me more Hondata1. Or if you know of a way to get around this connection failure with KPro, then also let me know. THANKS!!! This information is invaluable to me brotha!!

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
OK, I took a test light to my OBD2 port that is underneath the steering column. I started the car and let it warm up for a couple of minutes, then teted each wire. The results: only the red/white wire lit up the test light, and it appeared that the brown wire was causing a drop in the rpms (ground??). But none of the other wires had a reaction. Any help??

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
UPDATE:
I managed to pull the ECU out and it looks like it is the RSX Type-S ECU (PRB), so I can cross a JDM ECU problem off my list of possibilities. So this must be a wiring issue between my ECU and my OBD2 port. Anyone have the wiring schematics, diagrams for the Civic OBD2 port wiring going to the ECU. This would be a big help so that I can trace these wires and make sure they are going where they are supposed to be. THANKS!!!

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
Its not an ECU problem now, and thats all that KPro would fix. It appears to be an issue in the wires that go from the ECU to the OBD2 port. Once I get those wire corrected, Im hoping that solves this problem. SOOOO, anyone who can get me some diagrams of the 01-03 ex coupe wiring from the OBD2 port to the ECU, I would be so thankful!!! Thanks for the comments and suggestions people, thats why 7thgencivic.com rocks, quick and intelligent members (for the most part, haha).

OK, crunch time now. I MUST pass emissions, and am havign alot of trouble. ANYONE that knows anything about the Virginia DEQ OBD2 emissions test, please let me know how it works?? Does this program/test compare chasis to ECU VIN numbers?? Does the RSX-S ECU contain a VIN number from the original car?? PLEASE HELP!!! 3 days left to get my emissions done.

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
Not sure KPro is gonna be a solution. I need to understand how the VA DEQ test works, and if they compare the VIN from the chasis with the VIN from the RSX-S ECU. If they do, that may be my problem, if not, I am clueless.

Bring back a post from the dead, but wanted to update this post for other users information. I ran through the Acura troubleshooting flow charts for an ECM not communicating through the OBD2 port, and ended up with replacing a wire or my ECM. I replaced the wire, with no luck, so I then went and purchased a KPro'ed ECM. Upon trying to datalog with the KPro ECM, it was realized that everytime I started the car, I would lose communication and go "offline" with KPro.
So, I could communicate in the "ignition on" position, but as soon as I start the car, I lose communication. I dug deeper on Hondata's website and noticed that some users were havign similar problems due to "non-resistor" sparkplugs. LONG SHOT, right??.....WRONG....swapped the stock plugs back in it (from the plugs the previous owner had installed) and my KPro communicates. Go to run emissions, and ALL is good....communication and emissions go flawlessly!!
So, if you are having any communication issues between your ECM and OBD2 port/KPro USB...make sure you are running RESISTOR spark plugs. Long post, but hopefully my headaches and misfortune can help some other people out!! For those that replied to my posts, Thanks for the help and troubleshooting insight!!

Re: HELP - OBD2 OBDII ECU Connection Emissions??
Yeah, well, K-series engines run a bit hot, so Im figuring that the previous owner put the higher heat rating plugs in, not realizing the detrimental effect they would have on the ECM communication.....I posted up this information on k20a.org as well, and there is a guy with a 7th gen kswap there, and this ended up being his problem as well. I just hope that my headaches and hours searching for resolution can help someone out. Crazy the way these strange things occur, OH WELL
