Intake Question ...

I noticed if the pipe is further into the filter then just the end when your reving at High RPMS its not as loud? Does that mean its not sucking in as much air or what? If its not getting as much air does that mean its producing less HP?

Because before it would get REALLLYY loud and I stuck the pipe in just because it would fit better with the high flow filter to have more open space around it. So the pipe is now in about 2" into the filter so say about 1.75" further in that it would normally be. I noticed a huge drop in the noise level but im not shore I think I felt a bit more Kick in the 2500-3500RPM Range?

Does any of this make sence? (Basically what does it do for the air intake if the pipe is further into the intake?)

THANKS.

Re: Intake Question ...

im not exactly sure but it seems that putting the pipe too far into the filter would cause a drop in airflow due to air being pushed to the rear of the filter and having nowhere to go (causing turbulence).

Re: Intake Question ...

Before I had the Filter just barly hugging the end of the pipe where i guess it "should" be and then to make some room i put the pipe further in by about an " and a half. Now what I noticed is before at high RPMS the engine would be VERY VERY LOUD when the pipe was fitted properly as in not in further than it should be. After I placed the pipe about an " further into the filter the noise cut down by about 50%.

Maybe the picture will help.

First Picture is of the pipe fitted to the start of the filter, This at high RPMs had the engine sounding VERY VERY LOUD.

Second Picture is of the pipe fitted about 1.5" into the filter now This at high RPMs has the engine more quite.

Now What I was wondernig is does the engine being quite mean its producing less HPs? Or If anything else What wrong can come from having the pipe fitting too far into the filter?

i dont think you should base "whp" on "noise" or "louder"...

Re: Intake Question ...

Sighh, Okay well thanks for the help.

Honestly How could about an inch of pipe further into the filter make a difference of such? Its a 3" Filter starting with a 2.5" pipe from the engine then goes to 3" Pipe at the end.

I guess ill just fiddle some more till I find a median.

Well if anything, is it better that the engine isnt as loud at higher rpm's anymore? Is that atleast a good thing if not then I can kinda go in the other direction?

Re: Intake Question ...

lol make you pic you avatar damn it carter...

the reason behind the 3inch to 2.5 inch is to "create" a vacume effect...

AEM droped cash on R&D to prove this hence the V2...

best of luck to you...

Re: Intake Question ...

you want seamless transition from filter to pipe, so air flows smooth and fast.

Re: Intake Question ...

I think there's more to this than we're realizing.

I had a long conversation with some senior Aero majors the other day in the engine lab on the merits of intake manifold design and positive/negative pressure and all that. Applying what we were discussing to this, I don't think it's going to impact your mass air flow. If you were to block off the bottom half of the filter or something, where half of the intake area was reduced, then yeah, that might make a difference. But due to the different shape now, I'm betting all that happened is the sound's gone. There are a lot of reasons behind it, but most of them are very complicated and I've just come to accept them.

Re: Intake Question ...

look at the weapon-r filter testing tho, it has a velocity stack that meets air exactly at the pipe and it flows better than open pipe without filter. on our cars it wont matter, but on the srt4 it can mean a 30wtq gain.

Re: Intake Question ...

I think a rounded velocity stack (if we're talking about the same thing) would work very differently than a hard angle from the filter to the inside of the pipe.

Re: Intake Question ...

i know, the hard angle would kill airflow cause you will have air swirling backwards and slowing incoming air.

Re: Intake Question ...

Dont all the 7th gen have the hard angel right before it enters the engine? Im guessing not much that you could do there tho because otherwise it wouldnt fit?
