srt-4 motor swap?

ive got this crazy idea to try to put my totaled srt-4 motor into my 02 civic ex coupe.. im thinking the motor will fit in the bay but how many more mods and what trouble it would be?? Ive got about 5k to play with well and if anyone wants the civic motor its all stock...

the srt-4 motor however was my baby nothing is wrong with it about 8 1/2k done to the car which is now totaled except for the engine tranny and stuff

be nice

Well thats a first. Nobody knows dude, you are/would be the first to try. We can't tell you what to expect except that pretty much nothing will line up like it should. Goodluck regardless.

but making a dodge computer talk with the honda ABS, fuel system, etc.... won't be a cake walk.
In all honesty, just looking at the way the SRT4 motor is mounted, I'd say it'll take way more than 5 grand, and you'd be better off selling that motor to someone with a Peeon and buying a K-series for the civic.
Mounting it, the shift linkage, all the hoses and wires, the tons of gas it needs, etc.... its just not economically worth it.

Sorry to say but $5000 won't come close to covering costs. Most parts would have to be fabricated and countless hours would be spent wiring it up. Anything can be done with money of course, but you'll need lots of it. I can see a project like this easily running into the 5-digits.

I k-series would be much easier to swap and could out do the SRT-4 motor if built right, especially the K24. People are running stock K24 with stock K20 head and making over 400 whp. With 5k you could prolly put together a nice swap and have left to spend if you do alot of work yourself.

^^^ somewhere in there you need to stick the phrase "lots of boost"
a K-frankenstein alone wont make you 400 HP.

All in all it would be nice to see something like an SRT motor dropped into the civic though.

i say sell the srt-4 engine to a dodge guy, use the the 6-9,000 on a built/turboed k series swap and chances are you will have one of the fastest civics in town, especially in my town.

ths SRT motor i have already has 320whp and 365flbs of tourqe.. I have almost every bolt on you can think of for it.

Im thinking we would need a new sub-frame re do the sturtsand the wiring would be different but why not just change out the computers i have the stage one so the dash + lights would be it??

wouldn't standalone work on the swap? That sounds like a lot of work though man. Hey if you end up doing it show some pics of the process.

even aem's ems uses the honda ecu to control everyday functions, lights, windows, and things like that, it saves on a wiring nightmare, now granted if you are a wiring genius and have all the diagrams/time/ability then do it, your just going to have to get alot of custom fabrication done to get the motor to stay where you wnat it.

The wiring on the civic isnt all that complicated if you sit down and invest some time to figure it out. With a standalone ems it might work... I'm sure this could be done- buy you are looking at some dollars for it. Very interesting... you do have a good chunk to kick start the process. You would be out of a car for the entire time unless you have a backup.

other things to think about:
Power steering
Break system (it wouldnt be too hard to hook up some aftermarket breaks on the axels and get them working)
Fuel system
Cooling system

im not worried about the brakes as you said aftermarket will be fine. I have a return style fuel system already w/ walbro 255lph pump... the main thing is mounting the engine and SPACE is there enough?? i have a huge front mount with Nitrous system attached that i wanna keep.

things i have thought about much are power steering, belts. cooling system, shifting...lol TRACTION..

So the srt-4 motor is what a 2.4 L, if the k24 fits why won't the srt motor fit.

the K24 motor is high cost to boost isnt it? while i already know this motor and have everything for it.. although i will need a dual 3' exhaust if i do this.

about what is the weight difference between a 02 civic and a 04 SRT... im going to call some guys today that owna tunner shop here in SC and ask what they think...IF it can be done????

Bro anything can be done, thats IF you have the money. Since all you have right now is the motor with everything and 5000 to work with it's going to be pretty hard.

thats good the 2002 civic ex coupe weighs in at 2585 lbs and the 2004 srt-4 weighs in at 2970 lbs but a first gen neon weighs just as much as a civic... does 400lbs really make a difference?

ok ok if i sold the motor out of the hond either d16 or d17 im not sure right now how much could i get for it and the tranny..

a K series is about 1400$ and the turbo is about what?? i might be able to get the money from selling the SRT-4 motor and tranny should sell good people tend to blow them up.

how big of a turbo would you need to make the 400 horse's im thinking a 50 trim exhaust external wastegate boost controller and igition and fuel management??
