you know, my first car was an automatic. in fact, it wasn't even a car, it was a jeep cherokee. no, it wasn't what i wanted (though i had my fun
), but i got it from my grandmother for being a grandson. To say i was thankful to her, my dad for letting me keep it for nothing, to even live in a country where a 16 year old can have a license and his/her own car for almost nothing, is to be excruciatingly modest. all of you that didn't drop a dime to get your cars should be damn thankful that you have a car period. i am not ranting and i understand fully that you are all thankful to have free rides, but it does bring me some resentment towards the people that seem to believe that they are owed a car to their specifications, especially if it is their first. having a car, well, being able to obtain a license at all is a PRIVILEGE, not a right, necessity, or anything else that suggests that you deserve either the license or the vehicle. and i still say that this country needs to make getting licenses more like it is germany. if the only price you had to pay for your car is not getting to choose anything about it, that's the best deal you will ever have in life, because EVEN IF YOU WIN A CAR you have to pay a shitload of taxes to keep it.

I have was at a dealership a couple years ago looking for a car. I went to hondaland, go figure. I found this clean 2000 civic si. Electron blue and eveyrthing and i wanted it sooo bad! They wanted 14 for it, and a couple days later it was gone. Another car they had was like 94 ls integra or something. Silver with rims n eveyrthing. A ton of bolt ons too. We made an appointment to have a sit down with my parents and everything because...theyre just lazy and came unprepared or somethin. We come back and the integra was sold. I took another lap around and found a black 2002 civic ex that was stick and it had rims and eveyrthing, it was so clean! my parents didnt want to pay the 16,000 sticker price and then they found my....2002...civic...ex...automatic.......They talked my parents into getting it for 12 g's. Not a bad deal but..i really didn't have a word in it being my first car. I love the 7th gen civics because of how they look, ecspecially my coupe but the auto tranny was just lame. So here it is in my hands. Its um...cute.
I just burnt my tongue

Re: Forced into a Auto
i guess i got lucky cuz my parents were like get a civic so you get good gas mileage...i was like manual get even better mileage....so we go to a dealership when i was 17in nov of 03 and my dad's friend who was the manager there called 15 different dealers and couldnt find one 03 lx 5spd silver until thousand oaks auto mall was called...so they brought it next day and i thought it was an 03 and rather good looking until i found out it was one of the first 04 models to hit LA....so i got that...not really a force into auto story but i thought i'd share
Re: Forced into a Auto
my story was that i never even went to a dealership to get my car. it was a hand me down from my brother. my family needed another car because of the "sharing a car with a sibling conflict" because my brother and sister would always argue to see who gets the car.
so my parents finally decide to get a car. i wasnt personally there but this is from what my brother told me. they were looking at it and they found this lx sedan. the price i dont know. my brother kept nagging my mom for a manual but my mom kept denying it. so my brother kept asking and she threatened him that if he keeps on asking then hes not getting a car so he shut upped. then they were about to buy the lx but come to see a CLEAN barely no mileage, yet still an automatic, EX and my dad persuaded my mom to get the ex instead so here i am with her. and just two days ago i crashed her.. for the first time ever. we got it for $18000 and we got it when it was the actual year of the make.
i didnt think it was a deal at first but now that i have a friend who bought a same year as mine, 2003 ex coupe w/ SI rims (except mine is sedan), that car for $16000 for 25xxx mileage on it. i think its a rip especially he bought it with his own money AND HE GOT AN AUTOMATIC! he couldve gotten a type r or something.

Mines funny.
I drove a 96 Yukon that i had done some exterior work to. i was 17 at the time ( year ago) and the thing sucked gas down like crazy. Gas was rising so my parents and i figured we better start looking. Well my dad works with a bunch of japanese people (designing headlamps for nissan , honda) and one dude he worked with had to leave america to stay in Japan for some legal issue. He had an 02 ex coupe (NHblack) with 38,000 miles on it. He was so desperate to get rid of it bcuz he had to leave that we got it for 9,000. I paid the 9,000 over that summer (last summer) and it is currently paid off. There isnt a day that goes by that i dont wish i could shift or stay in second when i dont wanna get dropped to third. I normally accelerate to 2nd then drop it into d2 and drive second till im ready heh to drop it d3 then back to drive. I know you guys have had to done that ?? Anyway , This summer i have my mind on the 2,990 Dezod turbo which , when all said and done will amound to about 4,000. I have community college coming up in the fall and ill be working for 14.50 and hour this summer. Think i should go for it? its bugging me alot lately.. OPINIONS PLZ~

Re: Forced into a Auto
I just purchased my manual DX yesterday. I'm learning to operate manual. I just got back from driving around my neighborhood and I have to say that my 94' dx dosen't have a tachometer and I don't have experience. I shift based on how fast the vehcicle is traveling. I don't mean to thread hijack, but I'm starting a thread. I need tips from members and a type of "getting to know you guys" type thing. See you guys.
As far as automatic, maybe if I absolutely have to. I'm enjoying learning manual, but my poor clutch, I'm sorry for the absue.

Re: Forced into a Auto
member #6 here. well...my parenst bought me the car i wanted a manual. they said no because i need to focus on driving an if i have a manual that would be one more distraction because i always mess with cds and stuff while driving. and they said i would get sick of it. wow were they wrong. im sick of my auto.
I know I do.
I remember this bitch bumped me from behind while waiting at a red light. She said her foot slipped.
fkcing autos Re: Forced into a Auto
haha. (thread reviving, lmao). when i was searching for a car, my parents told me i needed to pay half the cost of the car. so i looked at everything under the sun. the 7th gen civics caught my eye, but most with under 50,000 miles were $10K and up. So one day i found an auto for $6,900. I really wanted it, and my parents bought it outright. To this day, i havent put more than a $600 down payment on it. If i had known that, I definietly would have gone with a more expensive manual. lol. but anyway i still love my car, and the auto does come in handy on my way to work ( stoplight at the top of a hill!)
Re: Forced into a Auto
From the summer of 9th grade until 11th grade I worked part time in a grocery store and saved up a wack load of cash (I had nothing to spend it on really). Come summer of 11th grade, I got my license and quit my job and started driving my parents '03 Civic SI. They got really mad that I was unemployed but since I have over 8k saved up, I didn't really give a ****. My parents then told me that if I go another job, they would give me the Civic (an automatic). Regardless, I called up my old manager and got my job, as well as my own car that day.
They told me I could sell it and buy a standard if I wanted to, but the thing is the '03 only has 60 000km on it, wich is pretty ****ing good for an '03. The likely hood of me finding a standard with that much mileage and in as good of condition for the price I would sell the '03 at is highly unlikely.

Re: Forced into a Auto
To those of you who have had your car handed down to you or bought for you and are in anyway unhappy that your car is an auto. Get over it!!! You didn't have to do anything for it! If you really want a stick, work for it and quit complaining. To all who have an auto because it was a better deal or a little cheaper, I hear ya. That is why I drive an auto.
Re: Forced into a Auto
^ thats why i bought mine and i didnt want to have to buy a new clutch so i just went with the auto and figured someday ill learn and buy one but now id rather just do the swap cuz it would be more fun

um.... u need to read
"Heres mine, So My senior year of HS or what not, my p's found a 01 Ex for me, and when i came home there is was in the garage. I was so happy, its was a car ya know. Then after my thorough looks over i saw that it was a auto... i still loved my car, and thanked my parents but yea, i had wanted a manual. eh oh well, beggars cant be choosers"
Most of the people who had an auto bought for them, we are very grateful for our cars, but that still doesn't change the fact that we wish we has a manual. As for not having to do anything ( i dont know about any one else) but for me my parents wouldn't let me get a job in HS because they said grades come first, and so thats what i focused on. Then when i graduated #3 in my class, that pretty much paid for my car, because of the scholarships that i received they could now use that money for something else, thus they bought me a car. As for wanting a stick, i still wish my car was a manual, but like i said before i'm very grateful for it.
