alright. FINALLY fixed the exhaust leak problem today. Basically, the stock donut would not hold the amount of flex the engine was placing on it.
soooo.....
I replaced that donut with a much larger one, and i also added a stainless steel braided flex section just after that.
And, i have to say that 7 psi feels quite good. I missed it.
The turbo comes on late. The boost guage registers positive pressure at about 3000 rpm. I make 7 psi at 4500 rpm. But that was to be expected with the stage III wheel and with the turbo this far off.
And Dezod, I did think about you while i had the header off...
I looked at the collector, and the person that had it before me ported it. It was seam welded then had a flapper wheel ran through it. So it is a nice collector.
I got my camera back from bestbuy yesterday (it didnt turn on anymore), and i put 2 brand new batteries in it, and it did the same thing. So i still cant take any pictures unless i am at my dads house. But my Dad is in an 'undisclosed location' working on a project for Northrop. So he isnt home to help me. I had a muffler shop install the new gasket and flex section. Another $65 i didnt plan on spending. But i know it would have been a lot more if i wasnt a former employee and good friends with the owner of that shop (the place i originally got all my welding experience from in high school)
Its kinda funny. He taught me how to MIG weld. And when i went in there today, they had just got a TIG welder. So i was teaching them how to TIG weld while they were working on my car.

No. It is the surge tank for the radiator. I had to take mine out to clear more room for my downpipe. So i made a nice aluminum one. It holds the same amount of fluid as stock.
also, my boost has fallen down to about 4 psi. the wastegate isnt opening. Im not hearing any more exhaust leaks, so i believe i have some boost leaks. This doesnt suprise me though. I am still waiting on several proper couplers. I am waiting on 2 2.25" couplers and 2 2.5" couplers. Right now i am using the 3" couplers you can buy from autozone on those. So im sure they are leaking. But i will get them fixed as soon as i get my new couplers.
Also, i will mention that the TiAL blow off valve is not a good choice for those of you running low boost. The valve has a slower reaction rate which causes compressor surge at lower boost levels. This BOV is rated at 80 psi and is meant for use on cars running more than 10 psi. So use on a stock civic is (in my opinion) not recommended

interesting thought about the tial BOV. is there no way to adjust the release time? is there a typical sound that compressor surge makes. I've heard it referred to as the rattle snake sound.

Turboengnr, I was thinking. Since you don't have ABS on that car, Why not put the air filter in that spot and run a tube behind the IM and to the compressor housing? I may just be talking out my ***, but I went out to my car and you might possibly be able to do that. Here's a rough drawing

Sorry if this sounds retarded to you, Just a brainfart I had looking at that pic...

plus there would be some air lag because of the length of the tube from the turbo to the other side... it's like going snorkling with a 4 foot snorkle....
the car has a hard enough time making boost now, i think with the longer intake, even if it's turbo charged, would make make it a bit more difficult to hit boost toward the bottom and middle end of the power band...

i got that turkey sounding BOV
Not good news. But it doesn't feel like "trailor hitching". I just here the sound.

The length of the air intake tube is very crucial. Turbos have no problem blowing through piping. But they do not like sucking through them.
Im pretty sure i still have a small exhaust leak. But i am going to fix this permanently this weekend. And i should have my couplers, so that will also be fixed.
But some good news on another subject.....
Just recieved the T56-6speed conversion kit from Keisler Automotive for the 56 belair. So we can finally drop the built motor and trans in that! All we have to do is drop it in and measure how long the driveshaft has to be, then send them the measurements. So the 56 should be up and running by the end of this month!

it is the tranny out of the camaros and the corvettes (well the corvette was a transaxel, but you know what i am saying...)
But ours has been custom machined. It is not a used transmission, it is one that is brand new then custom built/machined per our specifications.

im sure they used it for tons of things, i know in particular that the "terminator" like 02-04 cobras or w/e use them also. unless im confusing it with the mach 1's, either the t5 or t56........i think the t5 is the stronger one in the cobras.
but either way, lets see a thread bout this bowtie your building. sounds nice.

Good luck this weekend. Hope that everything gets up and running for good already. You have been through a lot!
How are you able to drive a manual with your shoulder, too?

thats awsome, i remember tearing my head apart thinking how tiny the valves are, cus the last thing i took apart was a sb350 huge valves^ lol

i simply steer and shift with the same hand. I can hold the car straight with my left arm. I just cant steer with it.
And yea, the SBC valves are pretty large. We have the big valve heads (2.02" intake, 1.60" exhaust) for the 56.
