There is actually a benifit to running the turbo towards the end of the exhaust piping. The benefit is that all of the heat that is generated by the turbo is now exiting out the back instead of transfering not only to the intake charge but also to the block...So Install towards the back actually improves performance but the relocation to the battery area definitely is a sleeper improvement...nice work on the fabrications...the space that all of the piping has to fit in looks quite inadequate but i would like to see how your gonna run your setup...good luck in a sincere way...keep us undated...

I think i will address this question first....

Basically, Because i have already had all the attention i would want. I was one of the first people with a stock D17 to go in the 13's (13.6 @ 101.887 on 8-1-2003 at LACR). I was one of the first people to have a turbo system on their car. I have had 5 different turbo systems on my civic (excluding the one i am working on now).

Also, a few months back my friends hatchback was stolen shortly after he ran a 10.90 at LACR with the stock suspension. He had just forked out a ton of money for a Strange Suspension setup. He made 540 whp at its peak. And he drove the car 90 miles to work and back every day (45 miles to work, 45 miles back). It was Bright orange with CF everything. It stuck out like a sore thumb.

My car looks stock, besides the rims and the clear corners. Even my full 2.5" exhaust looks semi-stock.

I am looking to make 425 whp. I am running a turbonetics ball bearing turbo. It has some funky trims on it. Stage 3 exhaust turbine in an ar .48 housing, with an ar.70 compressor and *i believe* a 57 trim wheel.

The down side to having the turbo farther away from the manifold is the lost heat energy. The colder the exhaust, the less the velocity due to the volume of air decreasing with temperature. I am hoping that the ar .48 exhaust housing will make up the difference with the spoolup time.

I am trying to keep the car as sleeper as possible. Also remember, in those pics on the first page, i still have the GSR manifold on my car. It is also hidden....

Eeew, I dono about that .48 turbine housing. That may hurt you. I'm sure you've already considered this, though. Are you going to run a cutout? I think you may have a tough time hitting that mark with only 2.5" exhaust. Of course, you know you'll have super fast spool time but at around 12-15 psi, you'll probably start noticing a big difference in the amount of power increase that you had at lower boost levels. That was one of the most significant downfalls to having a smaller ar turbine housing that I noticed on my turbo. I've considered stepping up to a .63 hotside on mine but it would suck on the street.

A friend of mine is running the same exact turbo I am. It's a t3/t4e, same hotside housing and wheel as you're running but with a .60 ar compressor with a 57 trim wheel. It spools up very fast but even on his setup with a cutout, he's only gotten his d16 up to 350 whp. I'm anxious to see how much you make with it. Good luck.

i have a 3" downpipe and a cutout.

Already on top of that.

I can swap to a .63 housing if need be. I would just have to order one from turbonetics.

the header should flow fine. It has a nice collector on it. I am willing to bet that the DC header with my setup will outflow the OBX manifolds by a great deal.

Yeah it will be fine. It should keep a lil more velocity seeing how the tubes arent humungous, which is what you need in this case, and those headers are pretty well made anyways, mine was thicker than an obx would be. Not to mention, look at our exhaust ports, they are tiny. This should tell you guys right off the bat that our heads favor velocity over volume, the complete opposite of say a 4g63 engine. I have pretty much the same turbo as Andy and even with the crower cam I think 15-17 psi would probably only be able to peak at 300whp as just a pure guess. Try it though, you never know. I dont think its a bad stup at all. Different isnt always worse. Good job fitting the dummy intake setup on there looks sooooo stock.

You know, I think the biggest restriction, at least on my car, is the exhaust/downpipe. I'm only running a 2.5" downpipe with crushbent 2.5" muffler shop piping. It's really restrictive on the turbine. But, I have plans in the very near future to get rid of all exhaust restriction.

im trying to make it the ultimate sleeper.

That heat shield is now painted black. So it pretty much blends in at night. I went to my buddies store yesterday while the turbo was still bolted in place, with the heat shield on. And nobody ever looked twice. They just glanced and walked off.

no.... DAMN ARIAS!!

do not ever buy anything from Arias pistons. Their customer service is lacking. For 9 months i was told "theyre almost done". Until one day i overheard someone say that they hadnt even started on them.

I got my custom pistons today. They actually look awesome.

[sarcasm] it only took 9 months to get them! [/sarcasm]

Block goes back to get finished tomorrow. Finish boaring and hoaning the sleeves, knotching the cylinders, etc. etc.

Lots of work going in to it

that is sweet man. very similar to how i did my kit on my truck a while ago. on a s10 ther is no rrom for a manifold mount. so you have to route a pipe to the front of the truck from the manifold in between the motor and the radiator. but they usually have a mechanical fan so you need to do an electric fan conversion. then route another pipe back to the stock exhaust location. it works great.
