intake air temp sensor.

Hey what's up guys. I have a question for you all. I'm going to install my turbo within a few weeks and I just wanted to know what you turbo guys do with the intake air temp sensor. Do I keep it on the pipe that goes to the throttle body or do I put it on the intake pipe that connects to the turbo. Thanks for your help.

well it can go either way. Mine is before the turbo but I want to change that. It is more accurate to have it just before the TB because that is the most accurate reading of the ait temp that is entering the engine.

there is a larger chance of throwing a code if its by the TB

The IAT sensor NEEDS to be as close to the actual intake manifold as possible. This is because that is the temperature of the air that the engine sees. Before the turbo is significantly cooler than post turbo, and this will affect how the engine runs.

So putting it close to the throttle body is a good idea.

I am having a piece made by my machinist. Its a fitting that the stock senor drops into, it has an o-ring seal and a screw on cap that holds it from blowing out. The fitting welds into the intake piping just before the TB or in my case TBs lol. I will post pics of it as soon as I get it back to give you guys some ideas in case you are interested.

still working with the fitment for the plenum and the vaccuum manifold assembly. Ill post pics on my site when its done. www.JDMFabtech.com. They should be sweet for my setup. IDK about as a single bolt on though, probably would be horrible for the stock rev range.

we installed the air temp sensor in the botton side of the a rubber coupler on the upper charge pipe where the bov is located. its difficult to desctibe, but the pice provided with the TSI kit that holds the BOV had a sort of rubber port on the bottom side of it, we used a dremil to cut a jut right sized hole in it, and inserted the IAT sensor there. anywhere after the turbo is a good idea. technicaly, IN the intake manifold is the ideal place. but realilisticaly the intake air tempature change is nominal anywhere after the intercooler.

anyways., we put it in that same rubber coupler probibly 20 inches from the throttle body. the air temp sensor wires were extended.
