ok i spun a rod bearing last week.. i got the new motor in everything is connected, everything is in... oil, coolant, gas.. its all full... but it cranks, but wont start... any ideas?

if its the same type engine use the ecu that came with the car, dont swap the ECUs

umm im using the one that came in the car i bought.. i have a 01 ex.. the motor came from a 01 ex... it came from an auto, i have a manual.. ecu's shouldnt matter

have spark? injector pulse?? check the crank sensor and cam sensor

Wha? Ecu will definately matter if it's auto vs stick!! If you have the big three (air/fuel/spark), then it's a problem with the computer or a sensor.My car almost wouldn't turn over when I had the intake air temp sensor unplugged.

i am using MY 2001 ex 5spd ecu for a d17a2 from a 2001 ex auto... using my 5spd tranny... ECU wont matter
all the sensors are the same...i think the oil/fluids just need to make its way through the motor...

uhmm only gas would have to get to the engine lifters don't have to pump up or anything should start if you have, spark, compression, fuel,

the only thing that has changed about the engine bay is the motor.. the tranny, wire harness, coils, sparkplugs, alternator, starter, ac compressor, ps pump are all from the old motor

EVERYTHING was plug and play.. so to speak, it cranks but doesnt turn over..

Do a compression test to see if all cylinders are at spec psi and similar across each cylinder.

its late.. im gonna have my dad check it out in the morning.. he just wanted me to get it to the point where it wont hog his good hoist...

all there is left is to figure out why its not firing... maybe theres a vacuum leak somewhere i forgot to clamp down...

Fuses? The coil packs rely on 1 fuse, if it blows, it won't start. Check those...

If I were you this is what I would have done:
1.) I would have taken out the crankshaft from the used motor that you bought.
2.) Use the numbers from the used crankshaft and the numbers from on your original block, to determine the rod bearing colors and buy new the rod bearings.
3.) Buy a set of new piston rings. (Might as well change those wile you taking out the crank)
4.) Use your fathers lift and from under the car unbolt the oil pan and then the crank and replace it with the new stuff and there you would have been able to start now.

That'd be a big waste of money and time. A used motor that runs would be easier and cheaper.

Anyways, check to make sure you have plugs in the motor. And check your pack connections as well as your injector connections. Go back over every sensor and every plug to make sure you didn't miss one.

As far as the auto motor mating to a manual tranny, it works. I did the same exact thing in mine and had nor problems and it's been over 20k now.

Is the battery fully charged? If it sat without recharging it could give you trouble. How is the alternator it could be shot?

well it turned out i forgot to ground something... and hte battery needed a little kick in the pants...

my dad pulled off one of the hoses and was like, see! theres no fuel in there, then i showed him the old fuel rail and he was like.. wheres the return line?
