newbie dilemma
i have a 2001 lx, and i've been doing a lot f reading about swaps. now i'm all down for it but, a tuner buddy of mine is telling me to go turbo. he say's i can make just as much power and it'll be cheaper too. he said to buy the kit for my car, sell the small turbo and get a bigger one. is he right cause i've been having my eyes set on this swap for a while, and i was thinking that with the swap i can later add more ponies onto it later. am i wrong or just babbling on like i have no idea of what i'm talking about. please

I was looking into a swap for a long time. When I finally started buying parts for the swap I realized that it was going to be out of my budget range and I still wouldn't be faster than people who were throwing turbos on the D17 for much cheaper. Another good thing about turbo charging is that if you go custom you can piece together a kit little by little, so it's not such a blow to your finances all at once. Unless money isn't really an option, I say turbo.

well to provide another aspect, i say swap. doing a swap can be done in pieces too, with the big one being the engine. when you get a turbo, you have things to upgrade anyways (clutch, turbo timer/engine controller/other electronics, maybe other options to increase HP or increase the cars strength to hold these options). and you get a car near its potential.
with a type s swap, you get 6 speed tranny designed for the power you now have, disc brakes all around, 5 lug if you want, plus the possibility of upgrading more in the future. it is costly, but i see people spending 4k+ on their turbo setups before they're done (is a turbo ever done?). and that doesn't count the increased routine maintenance demands they will have (or potentially blown motors we see on these lovely ULEV engines).
