1992 4 door swap help
ok so my lil sis just gave me her 92 4 door as a project car.....figured i would stop playing with mine and try to keep it mildly as is. thing is, the lx 92 that she gave me is super low on power. I was thinking about turbo'ing or swaping the engine out. The car only has appx 68,000 org. miles on it and has been in the family for a while but always taken care of.
Where can i find a decent price on an engine to do a swap with.....also what engine codes will fit into this car? i would love to get my hands on a k20 and put it in the car but i dont think it will fit.....and the b16, b18 are really pricey. an h22 would be nice but i am afraid that it may be too big as well.
Is this the best way to go to gain some power in this low powered car? need some help.....any links would help. THANKS!

h22 is way to big for a swap...k20 is iffy if it would fit...prolly would tho...b16/b18 is ur best bet...u can find pretty decent ones for rather cheap...an h22/k20 would run u 2-3x as much than a b18/b16
Id swap with a b16 or B18, or even a DOHC ZC motor. For a B18 id try and do a LS/vtec swap...a lot cheaper than finding a GSR or type R motor. With a 92 they are extremely light cars and the 1.5L could use some help. If you plan on keeping the stock motor i say swap to an Si tranny (shorter gearing, better acceleration), DPFI (Dual point fuel injection), and a mini me VTEC swap (D16Y8). This would provide a pretty good punch. And there are several turbo kits out there for D15's if you plan on turboing it afterwards...my friend has a 93 hatch n/a making 125whp and 108lb ft and its quick..weighing in at 2215lbs.

Just stick to the B-series swap. Its easy and the cheapest option to basically double your power. Theres shitloads of parts and know how, only problem is the engines are getting more expensive since the supply of new ones has been cut off, but there's still plenty around. A B18 will be a better choice than a B16, by simple law of displacement, but mix and match parts and you can end up with something better (B18 Block + a B16 head for example). Certain B engines had better parts that others, they're all interchangable for the most part. Cheapest way would be a B18B, makes the least power, no VTEC, but its bulletproof and the easiest to turbo. There's lots of GS-R (B18C1) and Si (B16A2) engines around. R motors (B16B (CTR), B18C1, C5 and C6 (ITR)) are going to be harder to find and more expensive. Then theres things like CR-Vtec engines (B20 + VTEC Head) and all the other Frankenstein combos out there to look at too. Simplest, get a GSR or Si motor, drop it in and floor it. Its enough of an instant increase, I think you'll be happy, and there's lots of parts to play with later.

if you want turbo....b16a2 (or if your rich, b18c1) and turbo that ****
if you want all motor....b18c5, no question, you can find a full swap for about 4000-4500

ok thanks for all the help, are there any shops that carry engines at a decent price, even if they are used a lil. As for turbo, this is a project that my father and i are going to take on. He is against turbos, and likes all engine. As for the tranny i have one other question, right now it is an auto (this was my grandma's old car which has been passed down to my lil sister, neither knew how to drive stick) Is there any way to bulk the tranny so i dont burn it with the swap.
Also ebay has some engines on there for 1k or less, what all do i need besides engine (wireing harness, ecu, ext?)
Final question, say i have a b18 swap and a 92 4 door, do i buy after market parts for the b18 or for the civic body (i.e. catback exhaust?) i assume that the intake i would buy for a b18 as well as the header.
Once again thanks for everything!

hmotors is where i would buy from, they are very reliable and well known throughout all honda forums. check them out before you buy from ebay.

with a swap will i have to change my tranny? or can i keep the automatic? and is there any way i can beef it up so it doesnt fail (sort-a hope the ans is NOOOO u have to change to a _speed)
you have 3 options:
a) find a b-series swap that comes with an auto tranny (b and d series engines dont match trannys)
b) get a 5 spd b-series swap and do the conversion ($$$)
or (my favorite option) c) check out d-series.org and homemadeturbo.com and build yourself a sick turbo d. your motor still has pretty low mileage and there are a lot of nasty d's running around out there
