Need opinion on a K20 swap

Alright, I found an RSX at a junk yard and the guy is selling me the K20 for $1,300 with everything. There's only one bad thing, It's a base line RSX. I have two choices.....A) Buy it or B) Just buy the axles, etc. So what do you guys think I should do?

Buy it and with the money you've saved, go TODA or Spoon or Mugen on the motor.

so you'll either buy this motor, or buy the stuff for another motor? i don't know if i'd buy stuff for the swap until i had the motor secured.

1300 bucks is a damn good deal, that motor would be ideal if you plan on turboing.

plus theres also the 3rd option of saving that money for a A2 or A

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with an A3. With the money that he'd save from getting that, he can get some trick TODA parts (cam, valves, springs, retainers) and get a Hondata reflash and be done with it. That's what I'd do.

you can't just put toda cams in an a3 head ... the head is completely different. valve springs, valves, cams, rocker arms, etc

you -could- get a k20a2 head and then put some toda cams in though ;P

Are the heads *that* different that TODA or Mugen or Spoon stuff won't work in them?

I thought that the only real difference between them was the ECU?

$1300 is cheap for a k20a3. I do go around and ask for installion prices before purchasing anything. you can save up the money and then turbo it/build up the motor.

theres nothing wrong with an A3 at all. I have a A3 out of an RSX and i love it. All in All i paid about $2800 for the entire swap including parts and labor. I mean a type S has got more horespower than a base, but you got to think that you going from a D17 to a K20A3 is a big diff. The toda N1 pacakage will not fit on a A3, But the greddy turbo kit for the Type S will fit. So just go turbo with it.

^^^really! most people i've talked to say they spent at least 5-7 grand. Also I have a newbie question (I don't know much bout swaps). Can you just buy the K20a2 block and fix it up (pnp head, etc.) instead of buying the whole engine? stupid question I know but some friends of mine told me I should do that instead of spending all that money on the entire engine. Just wanted to see if they knew what they were talking bout...thanx

I forgot to mention that it's a AT. They told me it's not hard to change it to a MT. What do I have to do to do that? It has less than 20,000 miles. Plus, The guy is asking me if I want the interior. He said it's brand new.

oh, that does suck that it is automatic. Youll have to change the tranny and ECU. Aslo if you civic isnt a manual you have to the get the cluth peddel. As far a the interior i would deff get that. I snagged the interior out of my doner car also (atlest the seats) no dash or anything like that. I like the swade seats better then the leather ones anyways. Just check around and see how much a manual tranny is and go from there.

I have the EP3 front seats and steering wheel. But I was wondering if the RSX front and back seats will fit my car. I'd rather have those than the EP3's. If so, what else will fit from the RSX into our vics?

Im pretty sure they will, with a little modification. I was only able to get the front seats, because the car was rear ended and the back hatch glass was busted and the back seats were molded and wet. You should get the si back seats so they all match.

civic are 60/40 split. rsx are 50/50. rear can be done, but it's some work and they won't fold down anymore
