IAT sensor DIY for turbo cars...WITH Pics...
Ok guys. Not sure how many people already have but I figure I'd post a simple, short way to do this. It seals perfect, looks stock, and doesn't take too much time to install.
1. Start by buying a NPT 21/64" pipe tap, and a 21/64" drill bit. Take the elbow by the TB off your car.
2. Unploug the harness that holds your intake air temp sensor (IAT).
3. Drill a hole on the side of the pipe and then tap the pipe with your pipe tap, slowly racheting it in.

4. Then with a vise or some way of steadily holding the IAT...

5. Carefully grind off the 4 pieces of plastic that stick out on the tip of the sensor, so the sensor flows smoothly... basically making it look somewhat like a bolt made of plastic. DO NOT TOUCH THE TIP WITH THE GRINDER, BE VERY CAREFUL...

6. Once that is done, you can literally screw the sensor into the pipe. Using locking pliers will make it very easy to screw the sensor into the pipe.

7. Ok, you have the sensor installed on the pipe, now it's time to extend the wire harness so it can reach. Cut about 2" down from the harness so you can have both sides to strip to add a middle wire. I STRONGLY reccomend sauldering the leads so you have a better and longer lasting connection. Also, use at least 18AWG wire or thicker. Tape both the green and red wires seperately, they can not touch eachother!

Saulder those leads!

8. Once both sides have been sauldered (sauldering in the engine bay is a lil more difficult), you are ready to reinstall the pipe. I reccomend carefully wrapping the newly added wire in electrical tape to add somewhat of a stock look to it, keeping it from standing out.
You are done! Stare at your wonderful work!

Both are correct. I have the SF kit and FINALLY got to doing this. This lil mod will work perfect with the elbow that comes with the SF kit.
Catalyst told me to tie it off because that is what he did. I still have my AEM rubber grommet but I'm too lazy to drill the hole for it.
BTW madwheel I dont think you have to extend the wiring it will reach the side of the charge pipe. When I say side I mean the side facing the map sensor.

You dont have to but it made it a lot easier trust me. Also, SF and Cat both said to just let it hang out of the way. Trust me, the way I listed is prob the best way to go.
Civicmexicano... You want it to have accurate readings, putting it near the air filter will READ colder but put incorrect fuel rations to the engine (it'll still work but closest to the TB is most efficient).

Just curious... Is the IAT stock, or does it come with the SF kit? If it's stock, then where does it normally mount?

Good info guys!
I installed it myself before actualy reading this post...
I drilled a hole in charge pipe just before TB, pluged in sensor using stock rubber surround. Then I used thin metal plate with drilled hole to hold the whole sensor assembly from the top and tided it with 2 clamps, 1 per side. Now: plate presses to the sensor's rubber ring makes tight seal. 2 clams hold the metal plate from moving and having sensor pop out.
Took me about 30 min....
...Hasnt test it yet, since I just put a turbo the other day and havnt had time to tune it..
