Ait Sensor Question...

hey i gotta question for all the boosted ppl. if i take sensor that plugs into the intake by the throttle body and removieit from the intake pipe and just let it get its readings from the engine bay instead.. do u think it will affect anything?

my only reason for doing this is that i cant get a good seal around the damn thing . it keeps leaking boost.

what have u done to this sensor? got pics? show me!

You will have problems if you just put that sensor in the engine bay. May not be big problems, but during cold and hot weather, you will not run right, as that sensor controls a fuel map modifier table based on intake air temperature... also a very important thing to a boosted motor.

Here's how I did it... kinda ghetto looking but works perfectly. Metal nipple welded to charge pipe, then what you see here.

No, I do not have a return line. That is the supply for my additional injector.

Where is that sensor supposed to go? In the intake manifold, or the stock intake air box?

If it is in the intake manifold, and you remove it, what are you sealing the hole with so that you don't leak boost?

Pretty sure it was in the airbox, but it's been so long since I've had the stock airbox in the car that I can't remember for sure. But there's nothing plugged on the intake manifold or throttle body, so it would have had to be in the stock airbox.

Ah, okay. I have this sensor relocated to the air filter intake pipe, i.e., the pipe attached to the compressor inlet.

Any downside to having the sensor BEFORE the turbo? We put it there so that we wouldn't have to worry about leaking boost.

what i did on mine was use the tape that plumbers use on the thread of pipes to make it a tighter fit... a 50 cent fix.

if any of you have an aem intake you can use the rubber gromet and connector from it. That's what I'm going to do.

Yep, big downside. Incorrect readings. Air is heated as the turbo compresses it, then is cooled when it flows through the intercooler and if any nitrous is sprayed. Needs to be close to the throttle body to be accurate.
