Doing a K20A Type-R swap
I just found myself someone selling a K20A (the type R one) for 5500$ CANADIAN (not US$) or a K20A2 (type S) for 4000$ CAN
the problem is: I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY!!! i have arround 2000$ but i want one of these engines...
i wanna ask you swappers : what did you do to get enought money to do the swap???
i though about selling my ol' 2001 D17A2 (vtec) but how much it goes for? it has 43000 Km (which is arround 28-29k miles)
anyways, i need you guys' advises so i can get enough money to finance my swap, i have arround 2gs...
THX!

my advice... GET A JOB!!!!
naw im just playin, but if your going to be struggling just to afford the engine itself, maybe you should rethink your budgeting plans. dont forget all the other extra fees as well such as instalation, labour, etc.

There will be other engines. Its not worth it to run yourself broke over it. Just wait until you have more than enough to cover the whole swap and then some (**** always comes up and you need extra stuff).
BTW D-series engines are worthless. Don't plan on getting any major funding from the sale of it.

just get motor when you know you have enough money
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Parts needed for K series motor swap installation for 2001+ civic coupe and sedan
- K20A2 or K20A3 (from Civic Si) Engine With:
- AC compressor
- alternator
- P/S pump or idler pulley (from Civic Si)
- wiring harness
- exhaust manifold and catalytic converter
- ECU
- Transmission and starter
- intermediate shaft
- Axles from either 02 Civic Si or 94 up Integra GSR (we used 02 RSX with RSX knuckles and hubs)
- RSX or 02 Civic Si subframe
- Hasport ESK1 bolt in mount kit (as of this time the kit will not work with the K24)
- Hasport ESKWH conversion wiring harness
- RSX shifter assembly and cables
- 02 Civic Si radiator and fans (although the RSX will fit with some trimming around the radiator cap opening in the grill)
- 02 Civic Si upper and lower radiator hoses (RSX are longer and may kink)
- RSX throttle cable
- RSX fuel line, brake booster line and purge line
- RSX AC line from compressor to condensor
- RSX clutch lines from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder
- Custom AC line from compressor to evaporator (Hasport should have one available by April)
- 90 Accord negative battery cable
- If you want powersteering:
- RSX high pressure powersteering hose and return line
- 92 Civic P/S resevoir w/ bracket and a section of hydraulic hose to go from the pump to the resevoir
just get motor when you know you have enough money

i'll have a RSX front 7thgen civic...i'll look into it
My swap ran into a total of ulmost $18,000. i bought the entire front clip and the motor is a pain in the ***. There is a lot more to do than just dropping this motor in. Take it from me I did the swap and it ain't easy. But it's worth it because this motor is primed for a turbo!

^^^^^^Bullsheit. Now way it cost $18K to do the swap. Hell with that much you could have swapped in a fu(kin NSX motor and made your civic RWD. And if you paid that much for your swap you are a stupid *** motherfu(ker. You could have bought a used RSX type S for $1K more.

Bigmac, you can always donate some sperm
well the total was suppose to be around 3,000. I paid 12,00 for the whole front clip plus shipping from japan another 1,500. Luckly I sold the whole front of the car. Lights, dash, shifter, hood, bumper, fenders etc.. So I paid about 5,000 total for the motor and had everything i needed. But I ran into nothing but problems. 1. Had to get a new ecu with an immobilizer key because US testers can't read JDM ECUS so I had to buy a rsx ecu with key and cylinder and transponder so everything matched from a junk yard $600 plus the type S computer needed to be sent to hondata to upgrade to the JDM itr program and the ECU had also had hardware mods. The Vtech pressure switch had to be removed from the ECU because JDM engines don't have it. If I leave the hardware there for the Vtech pressure then I get a check engine light which leads to having the ECU in limp mode and car runs like crap. $1000 for ECU upgrade and hardware mods. Then I had to send the wiring harness from an RSX type S and 01 Civic to be rewired so the RSX harness works with civic multiplex system. Also the vtech pressure switch connector was removed from the harness. $299
The JDM Harness will not reach because it's right hand drive. Hasport mounts were also needed. $600. Okay so everything was cool there
but the real problems hit with suspension issuses. The motor is simply too heavy for this car. The whole right side was basically on the ground. I had to update to Koni Shocks $750 for all four then I needed coil overs to compensate for the motor being heavy on the right side.
Skunk2 Coil overs $450. An eibach Camber kit is needed. $247
As you can see I did not know this was going to be this much because the swap was not as straight forward as I thought it was. But once I scraped the old motor there is no turning back. So you can't just stop and sell the thing. Besides I had a custom paint job, Kenwood Nav, Screen, Ps2, Alpine full sound system, rims, tires, Body kit, wing, lights blue and white leather custom interior.....etc.......... The list goes on. I started building this car and got attached to it so I am willing to do anything for it to keep it moving strong. But hey it's fun and I just wanted to do something different instead of being the average joe with just a body kit, wing, rims and that piece of crap 1.7 SOHC tinker toy that honda calls a motor! I wanted all show and let's go. Every car in my area looks nice but if you open the hood it's nothing special. But I give props to people who even think of doing this swap... Aways keep moding!! Joe
