structural strengthening for turbo?
structural strengthening for turbo?
1- If you were to add a turbo and ur total hp turned out to be bout 280-300, or maybe even alittle more, would u need to reinforce the chasis to make up for the massive hp added?
2- What engine parts do you need to upgrade as well when getting a turbo kit. Ex. Pistons?

1. you need new axels for sure, coilovers would probably be a good idea and i'm sure there are a couple other things that you may ned but i doubt your chasis "would twist coming off the line from all the torque", lol
2.rods, pistons, valve guides/springs, sleeve your block and gasket, with all that and more fuel you could run high boost all day long.

look at it this way, is upwards of $1000 to sleeve the block (good for 700+ whp), then about $600 for pistons, then another $600 for rods. Then you are looking at $300 for valve springs and retainers to handle that amount of power.
You can get sleeves installed for around 800, check out golden eagle. Keep in mind that with sleeves you won't need a block guard. Pistons and rods should be around 600 a set, 1200 total. Suspension isn't necessarry but it will make for massive handling imporvements. Strut and sway bars are definitely a good idea because torques steer is pretty heavy with boost.

For example on mine and catalyst's cars. We both overheated and blew headgaskets. If we'd had stronger headgaskets or ones that wouldn't blow, we could've both done some serious damage. Oh, btw, catalyst has decided against using his copper gasket and is going with oem honda aftter all.
Also, a friend of mine here in colorado built a 12 second, at 6k ft, no less, hatch that is n/a. No nitrous or boost of any kind, it's all motor. He originally recommended that I use oem gaskets also.
was it that bad that you had to resurface the head?
i think i caused more damage cause i keep filling it up with coolant and water everyday.at that time i didnt know what was causing it and no one here had that happen to them.

Well, what happens is, when the engine gets hot and your temp gauge rises, the heat from the cylinders has to go somewhere. When your headgasket is blown, coolant leaks into the cylinders through the leak in the seal of the headgasket. If the car is heating up, even if only for 30 seconds, it can and usually does warp the head because it's trying to push the heat out through the exhaust but the coolant isn't cooling correctly and there isn't a seal in the spot where the gasket is ripped so it pushes the heat out through the leak in the seal when no more coolant is available to circulate.
Don't drink and post, you will end up hilarious.

in other words you WILL know when you blow a head gasket, its not one of those things you can drive around and then stumble upon when your checking your coolantor oil and say "Well hows about that the head gasket blew maybe i should order a new on"

im guessin u mean coolant or oil ? hahaha well coolant ull know cause the car will over heat...
and oil , well.. if u have a turbo u SHOULD have an oil pressure gauge IMO
Sorry if this ain't related to the post, but say I don't wanna go turbo but still wanna re-enforce my engine parts, pistons..etc, will that gimme a performance gain? This might sound like a silly comparison, but a friend of mine drove a subaru RS 2.5, its a non turbo for those that dunno, yet he forged his engine parts and is making 400whp.
Could someone explain me how this could be possible? Thanx.

he had to do somethign else, higher compression maybe for NA, if it were turbo he could have got low compression pistons and upped the boost, other than that i think u have a "fibber" on ur hands
