Re: My first DIM w/ CCFL in trunk! (possibly a future HID retrofit build thread)
Well i upgraded to LED. problem is that one tube kept falling off with my subs pounding and the other actualy shattered inside the plastic housing again b/c of the subs pounding
i needed somting a little more solid state.
so i got a 2' LED strip w/ adesive backing here: http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a...T-STRIP/1.html
i wanted to get a 3' as thats what the distance is between the 2 lid hinges but they only had 2' or 4' and i cant cut it (or didnt want to.)
any way heres the pics
see it?

now lit!

a little darker but if i had the 3' vs the 2' i think it would make up for it. it's still tons better than the stock 194 bulb

^ Awesome man! That doesn't look bad at all, and I bet it is better than the stock bulb lol. Nice man. I gotta clean out my trunk.. dude, I just got some subs and an amp and I am loving them!!! haha
I want to retrofit some LEDs into some stuff, won't say right now, but, hopefully, I can pick up some soldering equipment tomorrow

Re: My first DIM w/ CCFL in trunk! (possibly a future HID retrofit build thread)
So my next question is, what if the retro (e46) is fiberglassed onto the housing and I can't get it to aim any higher by using the wratchet with a socket or the screwdriver trick...how do I aim it any higher???
The projectors are aimed really really low and the only thing I can do is lower it even more, but that's not what I want. I think I should have done my own retrofit with this much work so far just like Mike (temjinX) told me lol

you can mount the light differently. thats what i had to do. take off the bumper, take off the headlamp, then put all the screws back loosely. angle and hold the light aiming up as much as possible while tightening the mounting bolts. you can move the housing over an inch up or down. you can also use washers as spacers if you have to.

with how far there aligned off..i think it'll just be easier to do another retro. Sometimes its easier to start from the ground up then try to fix something broken.

Re: My first DIM w/ CCFL in trunk! (possibly a future HID retrofit build thread)
if you want, you can come over tomorrow mike, we can open them up and see what the problem is. I have a cover car port, so we can do some initial aiming in the day time.

you can also add heavy stuff to the trunk to tilt the front up more lol. i noticed a good difference between having empty gas tank and nothing in the trunk vs having full tank and spare tire with tools in there (which i keep anyway now for emergency). the RSR exhaust muffler adds another 40 lbs too lol

Re: My first DIM w/ CCFL in trunk! (possibly a future HID retrofit build thread)
Here's a guestimate... after replacing the loose adjuster piece on the bottom of the inner housing, I got the projectors to aim as high as they could with the adjuster ****. Today, from about 20-25 (maybe?) feet away, the left headlight was aimed at approximately 8 inches from the ground (the lower cutoff line) and the right headlight at around 18 inches or so. Not too sure, but those are my guessed estimates.

Ok, Gearbox. I found some pics, but no wall pics.

^sorry... these were taken on a shaky road lol.

^As for this one, it looks okay because the rear was actually sitting in a dip at the car wash place. lol

Re: My first DIM w/ CCFL in trunk! (possibly a future HID retrofit build thread)
looks like we were able to fix it with a ghetto $0.87 part.
It looks a lot better then it did initially. Here's some inital pics, jonathon should have some better night pics later.

Since it was in the day time, i used masking tape to should where the top half of the z-cut off.

Its was off about 2'' from the other cut off.
We were able to move up significantly.

Here's how the final look came out. Jonathan is still debating wheather to have both the same but aim low or one aimed low and one aimed right

He'll probably fix the other one later.
