SOCAL's Official Whoring Thread!
Re: SOCAL's Official Whoring Thread! (thanks, Mods!)
i know the tube is a home made breaker bar, but i only use it to take off the nuts. plus a breaker bar doesnt tell you how much torque your'e putting into it. so probably after to many times someting will go wrong. just hand torque it with the oem wrench till it doesnt turn. that should be enough for the nuts anyways
Again, it comes down to how much torque your giving the lugs, just give it enough, you'll know how much to give doing it enough times.
I had a stupid *** mechanic tighten my lug nuts with an impact wrench (which is a lot stronger than tightening lugs nuts till they stop) and my wheels came loose on the freeway. It didn't fly off bc i had a center cap keeping the lug nuts on.
So again, tightening the lug nuts just till they stop is wrong and you can't tell a person to do that. Tightening til something stops is very subjective and is different for everyone.

well the last time i tightened my lug nuts with just the wrench i felt my car wobbling and i had to pull over and the lug nuts were totally loose- so i forked over the money for a torque wrench.
peace of mind at least.

Re: SOCAL's Official Whoring Thread! (thanks, Mods!)
too many choices in everything. yeahh i want one that can last me awhile, dont want something cheap and give off inaccurate readings or break in a few months lol
Re: SOCAL's Official Whoring Thread! (thanks, Mods!)
so i want one from a company that offers that.
i'm mainly looking at craftsman and snap on (more of a name for snap on though)

Re: SOCAL's Official Whoring Thread! (thanks, Mods!)
on the subject of torquing nuts. Come on guys..use some common sense. You hand torque the nut in first and just tighten it down with the rachet. Then you can use the breaker bar to tighten till its snug. Its like q-tips, you stop when you hit resistence.
Then you drive around the block a few times and retighten.
i've done this for all my cars since i've had my 7th gen. Its always worked. i usually only use my torque wrench for delicate things like spark plugs and oil filter and such.

Especially cars now depreciating so rapidly and at huge amount. It actually just cheaper to buy a faster car.
People use to mod to get performance at a cheap price, but now its just cheaper to buy a better car.
I do want a cheaper car to mod..thats a stick as a weekend car. Some kind of asian car so i dont have to pay $1k for headers and $700 for fuel pumps and such.
I really want to a get a hyundai genesis coupe with the 2.0L turbo used in about 3yrs or something. This car is going to do for hyundai what the integra and civic si did for honda.
