Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
no electrical tape. I have a replacement harness in there right now (ebay), but I'm not sure which fuse amp to buy. It came with 30, but some people say 15-20.
how can i check for a short?

Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
Just check along the wiring for any exposed wires. The wiring might have gotten pinched somewhere along the chassis and the insulation might have been cut.

Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
no, the fuse size is just the amount of current the fuse will allow. A 15amp will allow 15amps of current, a 30 will allow 30amps.
If all the wiring is good, then the bulbs you are using is drawing more current then the wirin can handle and the wiring is overheating. The fuse blew to save your car from catching on fire and you driving to a firely death.
Then you'll need to get a thicker harness or use bulbs that use less wattage.
Here's a link to why fuses blow.

Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
but it came with a 30 amp fuse... if i were to put in a 15 amp one, and the harness was not made for it, would it blow or not work? When mine melted the lights still worked for months. the bulbs i am using are sylvania oem replacement... which might be the reason why the ebay harness cant handle them.
Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
whats the wattage on the sylvania replacements? ebay is like 55w or something. will a 30amp ebay fuse with ebay wiring hold up on it? ive been using it for awhile and its been fine. any input mike?

Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
mine was installed in January of 08 and I didn't smell anything until November. And they finally gave out in February of 09.
I think you'll be fine, maybe replace your fuse to be safe? The quality of the ebay and made in USA fuse is noticeably different

Re: CA Unofficial Whoring Thread!
im using a 15amp fuse in there right now. i made as best of a visual inspection as I can without pulling out all the harnesses and everything seems to be good. i'll be periodically checking that fuse box for any problems.
