its not a real tax...its because apples charges 20-50% more compared to the same pc equivalent but charges more cuz it has apple stamped on it.
Thats why ppl call it the apple tax. If you take a $500 windows laptop, the apple equal would be $800-1000 for the same hardware.

to be honest with you, it is a bit high. for the same PC parts you get get it for almost 200-500$ cheaper......
so why pay the apple tax? becuse you have one HELL of a great operating system...stable, no virus, no bullshit......and best of alll..............NO VISTA... hahahhaha
my friend just bought a gateway, pretty nice...and she already has problems booting up.

i use both apple and microsoft and i can tell you now, each operating system has its ups and downs. it all depends on what you do with a pc.

but for everyday usage and school, i dont see how a pc would be better?
i can get a full 5.5hours (apples rates it at 6) of note taking + forum surfing on my macbook pro, and by no means is the MBP a weak computer (i have a 4hr class every thurs)
the only thing i can see the apple lagging on my gaming, which ur stupid if u buy an apple for that reason.

Most people suffer from malware....usually because they go to porno sites and just click "yes" to get rid of the box.
As for stability, there about the same...i havent gotten a blue screen of death since win2k. Vista with all the new service packs are isn't bad, just a memory hog.
I've used mac os X, solaris, all the window variants, linux, unix. I didnt find any significantly better then the other at least when your comparing os's with gui's.
The apple os has some cool eye candy but nothing that actually making usage any better then winxp. That and i hated not having a right click.
The apple hardware is cool, no doubt about it. I have iphone and ipod. I play video games so i use windows. I hear windows 7 is promising.
