Rep Power: 0 Far Fetched Idea - Idea for So. CA.
Ok this is in reference to my post Here .
Now, according to the article, the officers can check out the engine bay if they see your exhaust and have suspision that you have illegal mods under the hood. But, I had a nifty idea. However, it might be far fetched.
What if you do have emissions Illegal parts on the car. You know how some car manufacturers have a big engine cover (plastic) over the engine under the hood when the car is stock (at least I think I have seen this)?
Well, why couldn't someone make an aftermarket one to cover the engine bay to hide those parts? I mean, looking under the hood is one thing, but having them ask you to take something apart so they can look is another. What you all think about this?
Of course it would have to be very well designed (not just thrown together) with maybe a Honda Logo on it or something of that nature. But if they glanced at it, say a couple major parts of the engine and that big plastic cover (well secured of course), don't ya think that most cops would just pass it off as a decoration? (less your car is crazy loud or they heard a really funky sound or something coming out of the bay, than I don't know.
Tell me all your thoughts on this! This is not something I will do since I can't even install my turbo kit now due to no income (in fact selling the kit). But if I was still doing it, I have a friend that works in the plastics industry, and he said that something like that would be easy to make and it shouldn't hurt engine performance that much...And even then he said to just install vents on it or something. Hmmmm...

Rep Power: 326 I think that if someone actually pulled this idea off, they would be saving a lot of peoples asses since I think its a good idea. I mean come on, Hyundai has the huge cover on the tib, my 5 series has a big **** cover. Just say its a new option....they cant have you take apart your car to check stuff.

Once again, it is an idea that I think would help a lot of people AVOID SOME tickets. Not ALL.

Just the ones for illegal mods that you may see if it's out in the open. They usually only cite you for the obvious (and what's in plain view, which is called evidence). And yes if you are creating noise pollution you will get fined, because you can't hide noise smart guy.
