what's that noise?

here it goes...it only happens every now and then. and it seems like it only happens on trips over 15 minutes long. it's a loud screaching noise that seems to be coming from up front, yet stops when i tap the brakes. wtf is it? it's driving me insane, i was driving home tonight and stomping on my brakes what seemed like every few minutes just to shut it up. any ideas?

that sounds like the problem I have. But it doesn't do it all the time though. Then, it does stop sometimes when I tap the brakes too. I have close to 40K miles also. If you find out what it is, then let me know. I had to cancel my appt. with honda this week, because of moving.

Its your scrapers fools. They're just warning you to get new pads before you really are "metal on metal". If you're too cheap, you can bend the scrapers back for a few extra "squeak free" miles

See, I thought they only squeaked(sp) when you press on the brakes. That's why I didn't know.

Joey-you know damn well that those, "noises," are just you and I having fun in your vic! C'mon now! Quit playing!

It is more than likely a wear indicator like Dallis was spillin' earlier. Go change your pads.

Jodie - i FINALLY got the stains out of the seats too ;-)

But yeah I always figured they were supposed to squeak when I applied the brakes, not the other way around. I'm a dumbass, i'll go change them this week...

Joey, you are by far my best friend and that by default makes you the exact opposite of a dumbass. Not just because I am hella off the hook and on continuous redial, but, because I don't associate with dummies. Yeah,' they will squeak even when breaks are not at all applied.

Where are the scrapers located? I took my wheels off and can't seem to see any metal parts close to the pad. Can someone take a pic or let me know where they are? thanks

Mike

They're usually a part of those metal plates that go on the outside of the pad (really thin metal) They're difficult to see.
