Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
I got pulled over and ticketed last night for excessive ecceleration. I apparently went from 0-35 to fast while at about 60% throttle. Wow! NJ cops need something better to do than to go around ticketing military just cause they know we have to pay, or our supervision will hear about it. Excessive acceleration is a bullshit ticket! My car really cannot excessively accelerate. Like I told the cop after he gave me the ticket "it's a Civic not a Ferrari, how fast could I have been accelerating?" I bet he just heard the Vtec kick in and didn't ever see me accelerating at all.

haha yet if you were driving a 400hp+ mercedes or bmw and did the same thing, i doubt they would even look at you. its always the civics and other ~100hp cars that get it. should be an easy fight in court tho so long as you didnt chirp the tires or exceed the speed limit.

DoD decals are a fuggin cop magnet, ESPECIALLY toward the last week or 2 of each month.. At least they were when I was stationed in South Carolina and western WA state
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Thanks for the support fellas
It's ironic that after all of the times I have gone 0-140 a few seconds on my bike, I get a ticket for going 35 in a 40 in my civic. lol

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
This is why people hate cops. Because they don't "serve and protect" anymore. They just try to maintain there inflated budgets by having things like quotas. They shouldn't be allowed to give me a ticket until they find my stolen $400 GPS!
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
yup, cops are dicks. definitely fight it..
other day I got a tint(deserved, but still a dick move, they were 35s but apparently you need a sticker for it to be legal...) and exhaust(not stock, but I got it straight from the dealership used like this, and passed inspection) worse part is, cop never had me rev, they just shut down a parking lot that people chill at with 200+ cars(food place let it happen, they had promotions and stuff) and gave people bs tickets if their exhaust looked modified

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
I got pulled over saturday night for some stupid ****. We usually go to Hickory and just cruise and hang with friends well he pulled me over and said that my muffler was to loud
WTF.I have the apexi noir on my ep3. I was like I dont see how cause it is just a bit louder than stock. He replied back that it rattled his dash and I said stop exaggerating cause all the cars out tonight have alot louder exhaust than my car has and you know that. He didnt say anything else after that except well I am going to let you go.
What a dumbass.
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
exhaust noise tickets are bull!!!! have any of these cops ever heard a harley or an older v8? come on! it doesn't matter what exhaust you put on it won't be loader then those.
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Yeah I am going to go ask the judge: "How do I guage how fast I am going? And what is the legal limit? You are right, I do need to research the law a bit before going to court though.
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
If court is anything like her ein NY you will need a lawyer. The judges dont pay attention to people here, especially if your under like 25
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
A lawyer would cost me more than the ticket. But hopefully I will be able to talk to the prosecuter about it. This ticket is in a small township in Jersey and theya re just trying to make money off of stupid crap. So the judge probably won't budge but it's worth a shot. The thing that really pisses me off is that he could have given me something that didn't put 2 points on my record but he didn't. F**k the police!
Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Wow and I thought we had it bad here in Canada. If you get caught here with any kind of "street racing" parts. They can impound your car. Even if your just driving normally :/. I got worried when they decided to do a "random" spot check. All i have is aftermarket intake and headers installed but still
. Good luck with that though. Fackin power hungry cops I tell ya

Thing is, I don't see how accelerating too fast would be justified as a traffic offense seeing it wouldn't place anyone in any immediate danger. Heck, accelerating too slow could be said the same. WTF?
A speed limit is understandable but accelerating too fast without even exceeding the speed limit, or tires screeching, or any sign of recklessness/racing behavior displayed is in no way a traffic offense.
Personally, I think this one is an easy one to fight in court without a need for a lawyer. That's just my .02.

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Did you actually go to court or did you just go to the courthouse and tell them how you plea? If so, they will set an actual court date for later and then you'll know who your judge is. I'd research his cases and see how he rules on traffic isues like yours. I'd throw those in his face and be like really? Speed limit is 40, I was going 35... how come there wasnt a sign that said it was illegal to accelerate to 35? Everyone does this dozens of times a day on their way to work and I get pulled over at the end of the month to fill a highway patrolies budget for the month. What happened to serve and protect? ....okay, maybe that last part is over the top and should be left out.
Did you go to court already or what? Havent heard from you for a few days... are you locked up?

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
They are actually required to now (Depending on local law)...Unless they have been given special orders/assignments by their supervisor
Source: Neighbor is an Oakland PD police officer
Me, personally, I would be like "It's my gas, I paid for it. I do with it as I please. I can even burn it in a bucket, I wasn't breaking any speed limit laws"
and i would definately question "How excessive is excessive anyways?" If i was in a lambo that could do 0~60 in 4 seconds, but staying under the
65mph speed limit be excessive? What if i was in a civic that does 0~60 in 10 seconds? Excessive?
"Excessive" is such an arbitrary term. Such as "Best" that it cannot be clearly defined. I would definately fight for that
and he posted recently, just not in this thread. But im curious at the result too

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Here in TX they have excessive acceleration laws too. Usually it only applies to spinning the tires but, as you all know some cops are bitches. At least here you can just ask for the 3 month "probation", pay the probation fee (read fine) and as long as you don't get another violation in that time it won't show on your license. That along with the stoplight cams are great revenue builders. There are even lawyers who specialize in traffic violations only. They usually charge about $40, which to me is reasonable as I'll lose more taking off work to go to court. I went and looked at my paperwork and in the last 12 years I've paid over 14K to the courts and over 2K to the lawyer but, my license is clean.
True that the drivers here are aggressive but, damn give a guy a break. I got a ticket for cell phone use in a school zone on my way to school the other day and my phone was in my pocket the entire time. Try telling that to the cop, yeah right, especially when he's on a bike. I mean seriously, who the hell am I gonna call at 6:30am? Well, there goes another $300.
CNN reported this week that I live in the second worst metro area for aggressive drivers. We have so many traffic violations it takes about 3 years to get a court date in some jurisdictions.
WHAT'S THE VERDICT MAD DOG?

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
I think tire chirping is illegal in all states, as is revving a loud engine. (DTP laws...Disturbing the Peace)
those are understandable, but i should be free to drive as i please, whether i get 10mpg or 30, as long as it's not reckless.
I can see maybe using a launch control, or like revving to 4000+rpm before launching may be excessive...but not just driving fast
I've also paid my donations to my local governments, over $1k already, 2 of which are cell phone tickets. California sucks, in terms of law.

Re: Ticketed for excessive acceleration. WTF?
Ok so this is what happened. I kinda screwed myself on accident. I talked to the prosecuter before I went in front of the judge and he agreed to reduce it to a "unsafe operation" which is about a $70 ticket with 0 points, I just wanted to get it over with so I decided to just pay that. What they didn't tell me was that they added a $250 fee on for the privilege of having no points added. So along with court fees and the $54 "no registration fee, I ended up paying about $450 dollars. The messed up thing is that when I was in front of the judge, and I had explained what had happened he asked me a second time if I was sure that I wanted to plea guilty (I think to give me a second chance because I would have beat it) and I said yes because I thought it was just the $70 fine. So basically I should have fought it because I would have won and onlyyhave payed court fees...lame, but at lest I walked away with 0 points on my record.
