What a night
What a night
I was posting to another form, and thought you guy's would enjoy this one. We were talking to another member about his Dodge Neon SRT-4...
Ok so let me state, I'm not bashing the Neon, or the SRT-4. But here is my problem.
There are a couple of SRT-4's in my area.(3 to be exact) They are all the "Rust" color. The drivers ALL have the same attitude. This is very frustrating. Every time I go out, I seem to get "challanged" by them. Take last night for instance. I was driving about five mph faster than everyone else on this particular road. I saw a Neon coming. No big deal. I keep to the right for the most part, it's the right thing to do. I was in the right lane, when I had to male a decision. Move left, and avoid the car in front of me. (hey why not, I had plenty of room from me to the Neon?) Or I could have just stayed in the right lane, slowing my desired rate of speed to allow the Neon to pass before moving on. When I say there was plenty of room, I mean about 7 or 8 car lengths away, if not more. So I decided to get in the left lane. Now mind you the Neon was traviling at about the average speed on the road 40-45mph. I was going about 50. The speed limit was 45. It's a pretty conjested area. Lots of shops, gas stations, tiny strip malls... No sooner do I move to the left lane, and look in my rearview mirror. And what do I see you ask? What else... A Neon SRT-4 flooring it to gain access to the inside of my tailpipe. This guy, in about a 150-175 foot stretch, decided to climb up my **** like it was Mt. Everest and he was the first to attempt it. After passing the vehicle that was previously in front of me... I proceed to get into the right lane. (P.S. I always use my bliker, it's just courtsey when you "cut someone off" not that I did) So SRT guy decides to try to get me going. He started with the classic "I'm going to rev my motor to try to get you to notice me". Now while I know he's there, I don't respond. Not only do I not respond, I don't acknowladge. Not even a glance in his direction. When the reving failed, he then proceeded to the "I'm going to speed up, then slow down" stage. This also failed. Oh great... a red light. I pull up to the light and stop. SRT guy was just shy of my rear bumper at the time the light turned. He slowly proceeded to guide his car to the stop line. And of course reving the motor to no end. I know sit in my car wondering about what idiotic move this guy is going to do when the light changes. The reving continues until the light across the intersection turns yellow. The tension builds in my mind. The air is crisp, and the high winds of earlier in the evening have settled. I though about it for a breif second, should I even make a half attempt at this. Ha ha ha, I'm not that stupid. Not this car, not here around all of the spectators, not now. It's just not appropriate. The light turns green. I pull away in my normal fashion. Faster than most, but not racing, not even close. I like to use stop lights as tests for the strip. It's a chance for me to brush up on my 3.00 skills. (for thoes that don't know, a 3.00 is a perfect launch at the strip) I felt like I had a good "green light launch". Keep in mind I had no intentions of racing, and I don't feel as if my launch was an "invite" to race. Lets just say he was giving me a head star to see if I was going to accept his offer to "embarass" myself. Well as I made my way through the intersection, I noticed he was lagging. As a matter of fact, I belive I made it clear throught the other side of the intersection, befrore the calamity ensued. He launched from a VERY slow roll through the intersection. I hear the distinct sound of "loss of traction". I saw smoke. I saw a four cylinder blur (as much of a blur as one can create in a four cylinder, from a dead stop, to passing my position). All be it I was mildly impressed untill.... I felt like it was the scean from Close Encounters. Lights every where, flashing. Strange noises, and loud at that (sirens in case you weren't following). And then... BANG!!! followed by LOTS of smoke. I cringed, grinned, laughed, and sighed. There were four distinct sets of lights, from two directions. (I caught you attention again didn't I) A that point I realized a couple of things. 1:There is an SRT-4 Neon thats severly hurt. 2:I was now involved more than I should have been. 3:Oh crap, I'm getting pulled over too. The Neon limped sideways, swerving infront of me. Police cars pulled infront, behind, and to the side. Now our whole eaunterage is taking up the whole two northbound lanes, blocking traffic. We are now at a dead stop. (I felt like a deer in the headlights, did they think I was involved somehow?) I laugh looking back on my reaction... The first thing I did, after coming to a stop, was to put my hands up. LOL (I put my hand down after a split second) I proceeded to "park" my car, while leaving it running and rolling down my window. An officer stampeeded my car, with backup following on the passangers side, and guns drawn. Once the officer had arived at my car side (I placed my order for another milkshake) (just seeing if you were paying attention) the gun was at rest, and things were being shouted. I was (looking back at the situation) confused. The officer realized this at about the same time his partner (the one on my passanger side) realized who my passanger and myself were. I was instructed to pull into the parking lot, where the Neon ended up. (The Neon ended up there out of chance...) After I parked I was instructed to stay in my vehicle, with my passanger. So we did. And we watched. It was quite entertaining. The driver was pulled out of his car. He looked like a rag doll, with limbs flopping in the breeze. To the ground he went, then up onto his car with wreckless abandon. (hell if I was tossed onto my car with that force, I'd be pissed at the scratches or dents) My passanger and I didn't want to laugh, we refrained, but it was amusing. I felt like I was watching COPS, but live. It was great. The questioning started. From my vantage point, I could hear almost everything. The officer questioning him, didn't know of me or my friend yet. The driver had accused me of enticing him into racing.
As the story goes... My passanger, a close enough to call a brother friend, is graduating from the State Police Acadamy this year. In his free time from school, and work (as a security guard on nights), he hangs out with alot of local police officers from a couple of nearby towns. Through this, myself and his brothers, have been able to know quite a few of them ourself. The officers were warned about "potential" street racing, from nearby towns. Suposidly this guy was "challanging" alot of people, and ended up in a world of hurt.
His motor was blown, he's now under arrest, and has lost his license. Turns out his car is about two months old. And was on the top of every police departments list of priority's, in the area. My officer friends let me go after I gave a full description of my 2.3 mile encounter with the guy. I'm going to meet up with some of them this weekend. We'll all have a good laugh at this one. Maby I'll find out more, could there be more....
Oh BTW, my spelling sux. I already know this, so you don't need to point it out. But should you feel compelled to, thank you in advance.

Funny story
I found out last night a little more on SRT guy. They nailed him with 8 charges. His bail is $25,000. His parents never came to get him, they hung up on him. Later that night he cryed in jail.
I feel bad in a way, but not enough to say he didn't deserve it.
