just got back from the track... *updated
alright, well ... I'll give everyone a little background first. This was my first time at any track, I left my car full interior .. nothing was taken out ... tire pressure was kept the same as I would run it on the street (roughly 44? psi) ... basically nothing was touched.
elevation was 1100 feet, temperature was ~78 degrees, there was a little bit of wind, the track was at California Speedway in Fontana
Ok, I ran 4 times.
my first run was HORRIBLE ... my shifter popped out of first gear after my launch:
1st run
R/T: .983
60': 3.131
1/8: 10.629
1/4: 15.633
mph: 99.6
2nd run
R/T: .531
60': 2.422
1/8: 9.380
1/4: 14.315
mph: 99.51
3rd run
R/T: .581
60': 2.541
1/8: 9.763
1/4: 14.814
mph: 97.52
final run
R/T: .666
60': 2.400
1/8: 9.393
1/4: 14.362
mph: 99.60
I'm not at all disappointed. I just need to work on my launches. Mods:
K20A
Injen CAI
17x7.5" SSR Comp - 215/40/17 GY Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires
Nextgear Intake Mani Gasket
no p/s
~150 pounds weight reduction
stock everything else.
on my final run, I thought about my dyno numbers ... and how rich I was running after 7500 rpms ... so I decided to shift at 8000 rpms instead of 8500 ... but I think I could've gotten a 14.2 if I had shifted at 8500 ... considering that my 1/4 time compared to my 1/8 increased, comparing my 2nd and 4th run.

I could've sworn the receipt for the tires said ~44 psi ... but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure the tire pressure is pretty high right now ...

you don't go by the pressure on the tire. you go by whats written on the car. if its a civic ex, then 30psi for 15" rims. yes you do change with the rim size I believe, but I don't know how to figure that out.

rob: I'm sure you'll do better than 15's ... just take your spare out and take out your power steering pulley for the runs ... it's not like you're gonna be using it when you go straight anyway.
gear: yeah ... I remember something like that ... different pressure for different sized rims ... anyone know what the recommended is for the 215/40/17 ???

i would like to break 15s....im gonna take out my system, spare tire, front seat, rear seats, and whatever else i can to shave some weight.
if i take out the ps pulley, is the tensioner gonna be enough to tighten it? or am i gonna need to get a spare serpentine belt?

^ don't take out the pulley ... just take out the belt. I think it's just like 4 bolts and then you can loosen then tension on the pulley and it'll slip right out.
I think that the complete missconception is that time taken off of the 60ft works on a 1:1 ratio, it does NOT (i.e. .433 seconds taken off of the 60ft does NOT = .433 seconds faster in the 1/4). I am not to sure on the exact #, but it is atleast 1:1.5. So .433 seconds off of the 60ft would = somewhere around a .65 reduction in the 1/4mile. So if we take his 2.422 60' and reduce it to around a 2.1(more than obtainable with his current setup) he will run around a 13.9xx. So with his setup and a decent launch (not even a great one) 13s should be no problem.

Daily driving pressure is 32 psi BTW.
