Car Chase (again)
I am driving home from work along a causeway. the road drives through a marshy back bay stretch between the mainland and the island I live on. I pass by a big SUV going the other direction, and right when the cars are side by side..... WHAM!
I thought my windshield blew out. The speed limit is 60mph. I look at what just hit me and it looks like a big hunk of egg or something... cheese.... I dunno but its spattered all over. I immediately assume its some kids out for some mischief. I am also surprised the egg didn't break my windshield. Assuming they were also following the spee limit, that egg hit my car with a minimum total velocity of 120mph, plus however hard he threw it. I stand on the brakes (no one behind me or coming the other direction) and tear off after him.
I immediately call 911 on my cell phone and request to be put on the phone with the nearest officer to my location. They do so and I explain what just happened. I am chasing this kid around in suburban residential hell. He isn't speeding but trying to take all these sporadic lefts and rights. The cop (getting a play by play from me) heads off the kid from a street up ahead.
I re-explain a few times to a few other cops that show up and my story plus the kids in the Yukon's behavior lead them to search the truck. They had all sorts of frozen chicken nuggets, hardboiled eggs and other food products in there.
Now I had said I wasn't going to file a complaint, but I requested that the police notify the parents of all these kids - because I don't think simply getting pulled over and caught without any punishment teaches them any lesson. I could have been some old lady who got scared and swerved off into the bay and died. You just don't do sh*t like that.
But when the cop asked me if I had anything to say to the kids (besides the "I've done stuff before just like that its not worth it, blah, blah") I look them right in the eye and said "I bet you didn't think I'd pull a 180 and chase your asses did you?" The cops started laughing.

I also, love how you handled the situation. Perfect approach, IMO-- not getting them into any serious trouble, but letting them get punished by their parents, which will still teach them the lesson they need to learn.
i got in a chase iwth an econline van once, i guess i pissed the guy off when i passed him. i turned off and he followed me through residential neigbhorhood. i thouight he wuz psycho or somethin, i had to pull some serious turns at stupid speeds to get that van out of my rear view mirror. those things can haul ***

Did you do some kind of slick e-brake manuver or did you just turn around calmly?

LOL... its not that hard. Just practice on a rainy day in a big empty parking lot. Accelerate to about 25mph, give a quick steering flick then jerk the e-brake really fast. You'll whip a perfect 180. Just remember to step on the clutch so you don't stall. Do it enough times and it becomes second nature.
But... it destroys tires on dry pavement (I have my steelies on so I don't care) and don't really try doing it over 30mph or so until you're alot better. In this chase situation, I had to slow to about 35 from 50 to pull it off - otherwise I'd have over-rotated and ended up in the bay.

Ummm.... I actually have an in car video of me doing it if you want...IM me. But to answer the question, flick the wheel about a quarter turn. No footbrake. Also experiment with countersteering... but for a simple 180, just return the wheel to center.
