Rep Power: 0 Late model Z24 Cavalier with manual tranny...
Raced one of them the other afternoon from a stoplight. I got the WORST launch of my life, I bogged it to hard that the engine died and then was refired by intertia and the fact I had the clutch out. He, on the other hand, got an almost-perfect launch with a little scuffling out of the fronts.
At this point, he was about a car length ahead of me. By the time I hit 60 at the top of second, My front bumper was at the middle of his passanger door and I kept creeping up on him slowly untill I shut it down at 80 at which point my front bumper was at he front of the passenger door.
As far as mods go, he's got an intake and exhaust, and I have a cheepo SRI with a K&N cone on the end of it. Other than that the cars are both stock with the exception of his 17 inchers in the wheel department.
Had I gotten a good launch, I believe I could have gotten nicely out in front of him and stayed there. Lets hope I see him again soon, we both live here in the dorms, and he works in the squadron next door to me...
(As a side note: I can hit 62 mph in second gear, my cars rev limiter dosen't put he pinch on me untill about 7200 RPM or so. This is in contrast to a buddy of mine with a 7th gen manufactured 2 months before mine that has it's limiter at 6800 rpm, exactly where red-line starts. This note is here to ward off the first round of nay-sayers )

Rep Power: 315 wow, someone posting a loss! this is rare! You'll get em next time! As for fuel cut, my LX cuts in at somewhere like 6900-7000. Didnt get a good look b/c I was kind of shocked that I hit fuel cut and just upshifted. oh well... doesnt matter either way b/c with the set up you have currently, shifting slightly before redline is better.

Rep Power: 0 You will get him next time for sure, if you don't f*ck up. Yeah I hit rev limiter at 7100rpm also. I can also hit 7100 in 1st gear and shift and the speedo will jump about 4mph. But i'm sure i'm not the only one, lol.

he was talking about reverse...you know, if u turn ur car around fast enough and punch the gas in reverse....serious HP.
Yeah, as long as I don't f*ck it up, I'll be good to go. As far as posting a loss goes, I'd consier it a tie, I got a crap *** launch and creeped up on him by more than a car length. He might have technicaly won, but he's history next time.
Speaking of next time, I just saw him when I was outside smokin'. We're both workin' tonight, so when we go on lunch, we're gonna run 'em. I'll post the outcome when I get back to the dorms afterwards.
What RPM do you guys usually launch at? I'm still used to my old truck, which had a V-6... Drastic differance here... A 2500 RPM launch in the vic scuffles a bit, a 2500 rpm launch in the old truck would be massive wheelspin.

Rep Power: 0 Raced the cavvy again this afternoon before it started raining... I got a nigh-unto-perfect launch and was about 3 cars ahead of him and crawling away when I shut down at 65.

nice job man.. get ride of those domestics
Incidently, tried launching today from 4k... F#$ked it up with the clutch though, got some wheelspin, mad acceleration, realized my foot was still into the clutch, let it the rest of the way out, more wheelspin, wound for a very brief moment, bounced off the rev limiter and scuffled both fronts going into second (I'm still on stock rubber, RE92's).
I need to learn how to drive this damn thing!!!
