Short shifting is not redlining out. Usually if you've got a tight corner or something, and you'll be revving too high to go around it (i.e, your wheels will spin and you'll lose it), then you upshift, even though you have more RPMs to go.

Quickshifting isn't good, it wears on your synchros... but if you don't do it constantly, it won't kill the car quickly.

Double clutching is slow. Synchros do the work faster. Double clutching with synchros kills the synchros, so don't do it.

uh wtf .... quickshifting wears out the syncros? ...

damnit ... I quickshift on a daily basis ... (provided that quick shifting just means ... shifting quickly)

quick shifting, usually means slam shifting. If you shift faster than the synchros can match the RPMs, you're gonna heat them up, and pre-maturely wear them.

How can double clutching wear the synchro's? When I double clutch it goes into gear much smoother then when I don't especially when I go into 1st gear, sometimes I can't even get it into 1st unless I double clutch, I think it only screws em up if you don't do it right. Whenever I go into 2nd gear and i'm going over like 30-40 I always double clutch.

I used to just rev match, but with the short shifter it feels like i'm really forcing it into gear, that's why I double clutch, also, did you see my results from the AutoX this weekend Zzyzx?

i believe it is something to the extent of that when you shift, you first flip into neutral to get the RPMS higher, then upshift to get more of a boost.

if im right or wrong, its bad for our cars.

2 Fast 2 Furious tought you how to Burn up a clutch.......

Double clutching is a term used for 2 different actions.

one is by drag racers and the other is from the street and road racers.

the one described by username03 is more or less the technique used and described by drag racers as double clutching. Personally I dont see the point in this. (it was probably started by Clutch Manufacturers so they could sell more clutches.....)

the other and OLDER description of Double clutching is used primairly with cars that do not have synchros. it basically takes the place of the Synchros and prevents grinding of the gears when you shift. It is both a waste of time and unnessisary for our cars.
