2001 LX Sedan Auto Vs 2002 LX Sedan Auto
Car #1 2001 Civic LX Sedan Auto
Mods: Absolutely none
Passengers: 2
Car #2 2002 Civic LX Sedan Auto
Mods: AEM Short Ram, 2.25" piping, Matrix EX race header, universal muffler, CATCO high flow cat.
Passengers: 2 w/ 2 subs/box in the trunk.
My friend's bone stock LX is weird, for some reason it pulls strong.. stronger than my 02 EX. Very good low end for some reason, better than my friend's 02 LX (both i have driven a lot)
So we line up (both of my friends -- I'm a passenger in the bone stock one) and the modded LX got a slight head start (he was doing the 1-2-3 count -- go figure) So a half later second my friend (in the bone stock LX) reacts and floors it and immediately pulls even with him, then in 2nd gear, the modded LX pulls ahead by a fender ever so slightly, then at the top of second they tie and my friend in the bone stock LX eventually pulls ahead again by a hood and beats him. We tried it again with the same results. This race was done while going up a SORTA steep hill. We did the race down hill for the second try.. same results. So I guess the I/H/E doesnt help. What gives? Both cars are maintained and have around 25,000 miles. Like I said, my friend's stocker LX feels strangely more powerful than my EX. Its able to slip the tires if you floor it from a start (slips for about a second) and my EX you have to do a brake stand, and even then it will barely chirp. I guess LXs have better low end???
I think I want an LX stock header

i dunno.. i think the 01 sedans are the better models.. my 01 ex sedan pulls on most all of the 7thgens in my area.. with the exception of that k20 swapper... grrr... anyhoo.. yea the 01's are teh quicker ones... dunno why.. they just are..

i dunno.. i need to dyno my car... but it pulls ok... i mean its good enuff to put most ricers to shame...
to be honest.. it pulled like the 2000 gsr that i test drove... altho i really cant completely vouch for that because i didnt get to open it up...
i dunno tho.. the only other 01 i rode in was an auto... on the freeway it could keep up with my 5spd tho...

ITS the same with all vtec's to non vtec's .. its the simple thing that the non vtec's are geared differntly.. i thought this was weird until my friend said this to me ... " i used to have a 91 gs integra with I/H/E and all day long i would beat my friend in his 91 gsr... but that was from a stand still... if we started at 65mph and then took off.. he would always beat me." apparently the non vtecs are just geared differently

My 03 EX seems to pull a lot harder than it should also, and all I have is exhaust. I roasted an LX with exhaust by more than a carlength by 40 mph and I had 2 other people in my car (no one was in his car).

It's the size in the piping...Smaller the pipe= more back pressure=more low end power....Thats why the stock Lx won. If it were long distance drag race I think the bigger piping would have eventually pulled away with more horse power at top end. Believe it or not when you feed a car more air with an intake and move it through a bigger pipe ....You loose power... unless you have combustion and fuel to add with all the extra air flow....You can't regulate the fuel in the 7thgens because it's in the fuel pump unlike the 6thgens...food for thought
