what type of track? Im guessing your talking about Drag racing...... well, those other cars you mentioned, were not designed for drag racing. and as powerfull a mustang is in acceleration, the handling is some what Lacking. Too primitive of a suspension. the SVT or the R maybe, but not the base Cobra.

Well, you could have said that you were talking about the Cobra R. Even so, Your talking about a Limited production run type car. The cobra R is like if Honda Brought over the NSX-R or S-Zero. Of course its going to be much better then the other mustangs..... Does this mean that all the other mustangs are great because the Cobra R exzists? No. That would be like saying that all the Lancers in the Us are great because the Evo 8 exzists....
Just some extra info.....
In SCCA Autocross, the highest class a Mustang graces is A-Stock, BOth the Mustang Cobra SVT ('03+) and the Saleen Mustang (normally aspirated) are in that class. Right next to the Acura NSX, Mitsubishi Evolution VIII ('03+), Toyota Supra Turbo ('93 1/2+) and the Subaru WRX Sti. The cobra R is not legal for Stock classes becaues not enough of them are Produced each year...(built in quantities of 1000 or more per 12 month period). If it were legal, it would probaly end up in S-Stock (Right next to the Mazda RX-7 Turbo ('93+),Chevrolet Corvette C5 ('97+) and other such cars) or A-Stock, depending on if it was compeditive with those cars.

isnt this like the last year they are making skylines or was it last year?
and i believe all Cobra's are SVT...u just have the occasional Cobra R which is usually made once every gen for the current gen.

And we'll see which is better around the track probably next year between the S2000 and the new mustang cobra. it looks like after 3 years of DOMINATING B-stock (which includes the mustang GT <cough>) the S is moving up to A-stock.

actually i still dont think the nsx-R has anymore power but i bealive its faster, carbon fiber everything. last time i checked there is alot more import guys at autocross events because thats something imports have a advantage at because they are generally lighter. but if you had a chance to pick either a svt cobra or a s2k on a track i would have my money on the svt winning.
To GotBoost in regards to the following post,

Why the hell are you comparing Import funny cars to Domestic funny cars???..."
Look if you have ever read the rest of the post leading up to my last post you would realize that I was talking about all the BS that goes on around here about Imports vs. Domestic cars. Those comparisons were to hopefully stifle some of that BS.
I have much respect (as noted again and again) for import drag racing.
FYI, I fully understand power to weight ratio...Hp + torque number related to displacement and liter, rotational mass and unsprung weight...etc etc.
Example, I think the numbers produced out the new rotary motor found in the RX-8 is damn impressive...my point in comparing funny cars was the fact that you have all these "kids" trying to say that imports are dominate in drag racing and far superior to American cars...
As for the cars not having stock or factory parts...if you look at the other cars that I mentioned as well, they are running their manufacturer blocks...take note I did not say that the blocks were stock in shape or form...Most Outlaw Mustang and Camaro drag racers run their manufacturer block.
For yet another example of this--Job Spetter Jr. runs a 1600 hp 342 ci Mustang block ( that is a 5.0 stroker motor for those who honestly don't know) on dinky 10.5 inch slicks, with stock setup suspension with a turbo charger and runs 7's at 180 mph. He has claimed the title of First car to run 7's on true 28"x10.5" tire and the first and only stock suspension car to run 7's.
And for those of you who are saying to yourself with that much horsepower he should be running faster--HE IS RUNNING ON 10.5 inch WHEELS!

I know that there are plenty of stang's that can kill my turbo civic, but this one couldnt. Although im shure he had a higher top end then me, I just didnt give him a chance to use it.
