Civic Ex Coupe BEATS a Accord Coupe.

Here it goes, I am not much of a story teller. I just got back from my first real race. I was just cruising down the street, well for those who live in Toronto, it was Yonge Street, anyways so up came a souped up Accord. I believe a 97 accord. So we both ended up in a red light, I thought I was gonna get smoked since my car was auto and I didn't know the potential of the other car. However, I just went at it. Started with a D3 and as the red light turns green, I stepped on the pedal hard, I noticed the accord and I were pretty similar, no one really gained. Then I hit D and I was ahead of him by a car length. I was kinda suprised, I guess the looks of the other car fooled me. But really, it was pretty fun for a first kill. Eventually I slowed down after abit and he came zooming past me. We ended up in the next light and I kinda let go, since I was almost home. It was a good race overall, I hope the accord went all out. Well I had very little mods, maybe that help...like 5 hp...I dunno. I only had a tanabe exhaust and a K and N drop in filter and couple platium plugs, also a strutbar which probably didn't do much since I was at a straightaway, I also have lowered skunk2 springs and yellow konis...dat probably didn't help much. But again, glad I won.

Nice kill. It was mostly the weight. Did the accord have bodykit, rims, etc? You had less weight then him, so you kind of had a edge on him.

Yeah, I did have a advantage I guess. The accord was pretty souped up, rims everything. Man, thats why I am thinking of sticking to my 15s even tho I really want 17s, but lightweight 17s are too expensive. Quick question...when I race with auto, I should always start with D3 right then hit D after awhile....just not too sure, some people say I should start with D2 I dunno....

yeah it wasn't. Man, my friend Acura TL type S is mad fast. We were just fooling around, so I challenged him to a race. He basically gave me 2 cars lead start....then when he stepped on it, all I could see was his taillights, and the smell from his exhaust, my friend had a pretty nice exhaust system, dunno if you guys heard of it, its called Brahus, or something like dat, he told me its some european aftermarket company.

nope not a V6, i smoked a 4 door accord from the same generation you're talking aobut. Never heard of Brahus. Don't put your car in 2nd to race it will be hella slow cuz it starts in 2nd. Just leave it in D3 until its time to change out of it.

Not many...it takes a large chunck of green to make our cars quick. You will only be able to take older honda and cars around that range. Congrats on the kill

never start in D2..you'll get ripped off the line and it'll be over. just start with D3 and use your ear. if you're not used to listening to rpms, then pay attention to the tach. sometimes i do this: start in D3, and at about 30 mph, i pop it in D2 so i have control of when it shifts into 3rd. then right about redline i "throw" it in 3rd (D3) and redline that and then put it in 4th (D). yes i know...all that work for a futile cause, but i just feel like i have better control of when i'm shifting.

reytito i also do the same. Start in D3 when first gear finishes pop it in 2nd gear and take it to 7,000 rpm and then shift to third

Yea, the Tl-S stock runs about 14.5 and with a good driver and good conditions can run 14.1-14.2 considering it's a 6speed, which i believe comes only on the CL-s. 2nd and 3rd just pulls and pulls and pulls. Add some comptech headers w/ i/e and you're looking at high 13's.
