3k RPMs on Road Trip
3k RPMs on Road Trip
I know that most Civics cruise at 3k-3.2k RPMs at about 70-85mph (or at least I have heard and read about it from this board and others).
The 3k RPM mark seems semi-weird on Hondas (not just mine but others that I have driven). It seems as though at this RPM level, the car engine can be heard more clearly than at other levels.
Someone commented (not a Honda fanatic either
) that driving at 3k RPMs on a roadtrip for 3-4 hours wouldn't be good for the engine? They also stated that their car would cruise at 2k going at 75mph.
lease:
Either which way...comments on this statement and my notes on the 3k RPM sound level?

WHAT?1. Engine more clearly??
Clearly?? What do you mean my that.....Loud?

Are you saying that it is not safe to drive at 3400 rpm going 80 mph in 5th gear? Do you really think Honda would be that stupid? The so called "king of gas mileage"?
3.Is your car stock?
Most of us on here have mods. If you have an Intake your going to hear your engine LOUD and CLEAR
. Same thing with exhaust, all depends on your set-upMy exhaust is only loud at higher RPMs so 5th gear is very tollerable going 80.
II dont use 5th very often, 5th gear is slowwww!

Somehow, it seemed a little higher to me than it should be. I know that the road trips I've gone on as a passanger, the vehicle that I was in was probably not at 3k throughout the entire trip...and we were going around 80mph.

Welcome to the site noob. In your profile it says you have a 1998 civic ex. I don't know much about 6th gen civics but couple of my friends have 'em. In my friends 00 SI going 80 his RPM's are around 4.4K if I'm not wrong. By saying clearly do you mean louder. It could be because of you vtec kicking in, but then i don't know cuz its a 6th gen. Do you trust honda in making their cars? I trust those techies more than anyother....
