Keep the car. Save Money. I'm in the same position but the reality sets in fast. If I had the means I would build up my motor and go all NA, but it would cost me a lot more in the long run (i'm not mechanically savvy), when my money could go towards more imporant things, when right now my car runs fine, good mileage esp. with unpredictable gas prices, and will last me a good while.

if you have the money to be able to afford one and the insurance then i say go for it. Keep in mind that debt makes you a slave to your job. Then again we only live once, i say go have fun and party until you graduate. You can always make more money long as your not a total lazy *** or just a weed head.
Everyone is right though if you invest it, it'll help you in the long run, but then you'll be old by the time you can use it...lol. They say youth is wasted on the young, i think wealth is wasted on the old.
Stay within reason and you should be good. The evo is a fantastic car. My friend has 06 EVO MR. THe paint and interior i would say is worse then the civic

Here's a evo discuss link. Might help you decide a little better. My friend had a swapped 7th gen and later sold it and bought a 06 evo. Here's my comparison.

My friend had a swapped 7th gen 02 civic with a k20a2 and now has a 06 EVO MR. I rode in both so i can give you some impressions.
The swapped 7th gen was decently quick off the line, but pulls like crazy at 60mph +. I remember we were going like 80-90mph on the freeway and it was still pulling like crazy...i actually got scared.
The evo is nice. It pulls like a mother off the line. I remember when my friend pushed it in 1st and the pull slammed my head against the seat. I was like holy crap.
The evo has nice low end power and can be fast with simple mods. My friend spend a few hundred on a ecu flash and tune and now has 300hp to the wheels. The thing is, the mitsubishi paint sucks. Its only been a few month and his paint is already fading. The interior sucks for its class, about comparable to the civic. I actually like the gauges in my 04 a little better. Tires are expensive as hell too. My friend paid like $500 a tire. The turning radius on the evo is horrible. The civic is better at that, but the high speed handling is nice. Being able to take a 70 degree turn going 80-100mph is sweet.
Basically depends on what you want. If you more high end power i think a swap with turbo or a Type s would be a better choice. If you want more low end to mid range power or just want some thing fast stock and don't want to mess with your car that much i say go with the evo.

I would sell the car and get something else. I like my civic but it's always gonna be slow. I just bought a 2006 si that should be here in a week. You can put a trubo or a supercharger on a 1.7l ex engine but then you running serious reliability issues. I dont think this block, pistons, or tranny were made to run very long with over 200hp, that's almost 100% increase. 0-60 in an ex is what? close to 11 seconds.

I'm trying to tell you that somtimes your car has to come second. if you don't have a REAL job (not lifeguarding) then you can't afford a car payment. If you are going to college then you are going to need books, an apartment, and football tickets. These are much more fun than having to work 2 jobs to pay for your car (I thankfully had to just work one).

no im not a pot head, i dont even smoke anymore whatsoever, and when i did it was light.
I dont plan on making car payments. i plan on selling my car private party. then buying the new car private party with cash. so i dont have to worry about payments.
Im not going to go into debt. no payments.
Basically the decision for me is whether i wanna go through the hassle of selling my car and saving up a few grand more to buy the new car or not. its as simple as that. i would just have to make sure i get a steady job to pay the higher insurance.
I mean, i hate to say it, but i really have nothing else to do with the money for the next 4 and a half years. i plan to have a job through college so that will just be more money coming in. The way i see it, if i dont spend the money on it right now, ill end up spending it on my current car, because cars are all i really spend large amounts of money on for pleasure. with the exception of my guitar, but i have an extremely nice guitar and amp that i am completely satisfied with for now.
My older brother is a junior in college currently and he is having absolutely no financial problems whatsoever and doesnt really have much money, and no job. why? because he really doesnt need it. so i figure, why not spend the money i have on something i will enjoy? shiet i dunno.

I say keep it, right now, I think as long as the car gets you from point A to B you should keep it. Later on, when your life is a bit more established, and you have a nice foundation in life like when you finish collage and have a good job or something, look for more then what you have. I'm not flaming u in anyway, just giving you my 2 cents :P
**** evo, 2nd gen is buddie........is350
306hp, 280torque, 0-60 5.1.....1.4 time........13.7 at 103. god i love that car......too bad i owe 11g to my school or i'd be putting that on downpayment for the 350.
