just installed tranny cooler!
Well I was thinking whether I should diy this, and it turned out pretty good. It's the B&M I got from 18secquartermile a while back. Only tough things were figuring out oil flow and trying to attach the tubing.
I mounted the cooler between the radiator and condenser, so it's in there pretty tight even without mounting stuff. I hope I got the flow direction right. Basically no difference you can feel, but the install is invisible. At least it should keep the tranny cooler now and hopefully make it last longer.

No, it's useful for any car. Most trannys go out because of excessive heat, usually when going on long trips or hard acceleration. It's small, but every bit helps.

Well I'm only doing stuff that won't result in my car breaking. Next mod, bored out TB in a few weeks. That should be fun. Then maybe I can get the vafc tuned and dynoed. Woo! Thread Starter

Yeah. The actual cooler is about the size of a small amp. It cools more if you put it in front, but the hose wouldn't reach. It also mounted better inbetween.

Well I did cut myself, but that was later tryin to get a hose on
I do feel a difference now. Even when it's super hot out, the tranny still shifts smoothly and very precise. Doesn't feel like it's dying under heavy acceleration, either. Overall a good mod for the ~$50 I spent.
Some notes if you do this: I think the left line is where fluid starts flowing to the radiator first. You're supposed to have the fluid go through the radiator first, then the cooler, and back to the tranny. Even the CVT trannies have this cooler stock. Then once it was hooked up, put car in drive with parking brake on. Let idle to circulate fluid and feel the lines to see if they're warm. Go drive a few mins to warm it up and come back. Check the fluid level when car is running and add more. It was an the min line on the dipstick, so I added some to fill back up.

It took maybe a few hours, but it's super easy. It just took a while to take off screws and hoses. I could show you and maybe it won't take more than an hour if you're quick. All you're doing is mounting the cooler and attaching a couple hoses and clamps.

nice job. so far, i haven't really noticed any problems with my tranny when i'm driving on the track. 20 minute sessions with shifting about every 10 seconds a so at 6.5K rpm. i use redline mtl fluid, that helps.
i might do it this week as a precaution for track days. going again this saturday and sunday. 5 days of racing so far this month
