HELP! My civic in a bad accident. INSURANCE, PLEASE HELP
Ok well I won't type up (unless someone wants to) how the accident happened but my 2003 civic hit a fence straight in the front. I won't lie it looks bad. Airbags popped, windshield cracked whole front of car looks horrible. Can't even open the hook (lock got jammed to say the least), and worst the wheel axle got shoved back a couple of inches. The tow guy said no engine oil leaked. I do not know too much about cars yet but I know it's bad. Now here's the rest of the situation.
I got ALlstate insurance full coverage (thank god), $500 deducatable and law is if cost to repair is more than 60% of the purchase price then they willl take teh car and sell it and give me back purcahse price. (I paid aroudn $13,000 for it). Now a guy came and offered to pay for the deducable and tow it for free if he'll fix it. I said OK and allowed him to tow it to his shop. Now my dad came and they talked and he says he doesn't know how much it will cost, but he estimates $7000 (notice that $7000<60% of $13000). Ok and we have to wait for the appraiser from Allstate to come and see how much damage happened and what it willl cost to repair.
Now I'm worried that the mechanic will say that he'll fix it for $7000 and end up doing a sh*tty job on it. But he seems allright and has experience with insurance. What would you do?
I also thought about having it towed to a Honda dealership, where they said they fix accident cars (charge $95/hour for mechanical work). But I called my local dealership and they acted like dic*s about it. In that case I have to pay for towing to there.
What's your assesment of this? Any insight and honest advice is greatly appreciated.

Usually dealerships and their shops are not good places to get body work done. You just have to see what insurance says. If they opt to fix it, then I would just trade the car in later for another one. It will never be the same after that accident.

never ever have a shop that charges you "this much amount of $ per hour" because you know what they do? they put one guy working on your car and im pretty sure that guy will not work his *** off. even if he did, he'd be rushing and when u rush, you make mistakes or little problems happen.
im sorry to hear about your accident and i hope you figure out the best way for the 7thgen

oh man you are in the same damn boat i'm in. my car got messed up really bad on the underside when i hydroplaned and i only had minor bumber and fender damage but we took it to honda (my dad's idea) and everything is about the 6 to 7k range of damage like yours and it's been there for about 4 weeks now just sittin in a bone yard of wrecked cars, haha there was even a 350z there, and it was reported first about a month ago and insurance still has yet to give an ok on fixin the car. oh and yes i have full coverage. ther worst of all is it being summer and i have NO ****IN CAR!!! it sucks.
problem is... even if the insurance company totals out the car, they will give you fair market value, not your purchase price... at least with allstate. so you'll get blue book value... and screwed...

well an update. me and my dad went to the mechanic and we popped the hood and saw what happened. Most of teh damage is underneath the car. The engine did get moved back and up from its support, but no oil leaked. My dad who knows cars a bit said it's not horribly bad and certainly fixable. The guys said they'll use honda genuine parts no question. I just hope and prey they fix it right.
