HX Owners chime in..

Hi. fellow civic owners. I'm looking for you HX owners. I have a few things I want to know.

How much did you pay, out the door?
Are you happy with the power? gas mileage?
Is A/C really an accesory that you have to order or do most HX's on dealership lots have A/C installed?
Is Silver and White the only colors available for the HX?
Can you get the side mirrors and door handles painted at the dealership? or is it hard to do it yourself?

Also, for those who picked the HX over the EX for the added fuel economy, was it worth it?

Thanks. I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm going to be driving quite a bit in a year or so, and I might be getting a car, whoknowswhen... but I like to do my research early.

That was me! I love my HX! To answer your questions...

Mine is an 01 so I don't know what colors they offer for the new ones, but mine is black so I don't notice the unpainted handles and mirrors.

Mine came with A/C for free...long story.

Not having power windows....ehh it's not that bad...but if I had an EX I sure wouldn't give em up.

As for the power and gas milage...the gas milage is superb and the power isn't bad...just like an EX, I assume.

I chose the HX over the EX because it came with wheels and not hubcaps...but then I put my own wheels on so that was dumb....but I really couldn't justify the extra $2500 for a cd player that I was ripping out as soon as I got it home, 15 extra HP, power windows (not a big deal to me), and a sunroof (which would be cool, but not a big deal).

All in all its a great car. I would have taken an EX over the HX if I had the money, but I'm in no way unhappy with the decision I made. Hope this helped.

my HX was 12.5 out the door just for the vehicle, and worth every penny. Power windows were a snap to install, no moon roof nor AC is a bummer, each cost about a grand at the dealership.

painted windows arent a big deal either, i never really notice mine (since I drive not silver, nor white, but NBP) however, my local community college, and yours too, may have an awesome auto body department, so you might be able to take a class, and one of your school "projects" mid quarter could be painting your windows. my neighbor did that for his truck, and they turned out great.

love the wheels, id prefer even the new multi-spoked honda wheels, $10 cheaper per to boot... but what can you do....

bottom line? in the summer I wish I had AC, but its not a big deal, getting 42 miles is pretty sweet on long roadtrips, and its not as ***** as the hybrid which gets only 5ish miles more and makes me concerned with the electrical system concerning doing custom work...

A/C is a must for me. I live in so. cali and will be attending UC Riverside. I'll have a 30-40 minute drive everyday and when it gets hot, like it is now, I know that I will regret not getting A/C 100%.

Also, WhiteRabbit: How much did the power windows stuff cost? And would someone like me, scared to rip apart a new car, be able to do it?

I plan on getting Taffeta White, so I would like to paint the door handles and the side mirrors. Any estimates on how much that would cost at a decent/good body shop?

Also, how many amps is the stock alternator? The only mod that I plan on doing for sure to the HX is a complete stereo system. (Head unit, speakers, subs, amps for both) I don't want to have trouble with the electrical system.

Thanks so far. If there are any other HX owners with or without A/C, please chime in with prices, detaiils, options, and accesories.

no worries about the alternator. theres no way you are gonna have a daily driver that will destroy your alternator in the short term.

im not sure about retail pricing to paint the sides, I would seriously seriosuly check out riverside's autobody department, see if your school has a paint booth.

the power windows retail cost $80 a window, but you can find them on ebay much less, ballpark $40 each, not positive.

the switches fit wonderfully well in the center console, installing those switches would definitely be something you want a shop to do if you are scared to hack your car.

the windows themselves arent to hard at all, youll need to widen the hole in teh door where the crank goes to fit the plastic cap that covers the gearing for the windows. probbaly something else for a shop if you are scared to hack your car.

but that only really leaves running the wires through teh grommet, a pain in the ***, and physically installing the motor itself, which only requires self tapping screwing into the door. so at this point, you may as well have the shop do it all.

if you are comfortable cutting a hole in the center console to install a switch for the windows, then you are definitely comfortable doing everything.

oh snap, that looks professional... props to you man.

wheres SLO? Is that san luis obispo? How far is that from Riverside?

How much do you think it would run for power windows from the factory?

HX + power windows + A/C = ???

btw: nice install there.

also, ill ask about the paint dept at the school. thanks for the advice.

this thread is also still open to other HX owners!

san luis, yeah, something like four hours north of you.

cross your fingers, I want to be working at TransFX in south ventura county, but itl.l be a tough sell.

tell you what, save this thread, and everyone who has ever read it. free labor to anyone and everyone who mentions this to me who wants a system and is willing to meet up with me if i get a job at transFX by the end of the calendar year.

anyways, I dont know about power windows from teh factory. every civic ive seen has a somewhat different door handle than mine, so i don tknow how that would work as far as the isntallation of the power window switches.

thats why all the aftermarket systems ive seen actually installed had the switches installed MR2 style, like you see in my car here.

My buddy has a 99 civic HX, built him a nice box for his car, but he had hte dealership add AC to his car, told me it cost him one grand even.

i *hear* thats what the factory moonroof costs $1000 too, from the dealership, but that is hearsay.

wow, is that a "free labor/installation" offer i see? haha i will definately take you up no that as long as the drive is no longer than an hour from here.

i'm really into car audio so maybe you could build me a box? how much would u chargE?

fuzzylogic: i assume that you will be going or already are attending UCR? thats cool, are ther a lotta 7th gens there? we should meet up some time if i get my car within the next year.

i guess that's all the HX owners on this board? :-/

well, thanks whiterabbit and everyone else who replied on this thread. If there are anymore HX owners reading this... still very open to answers/advice/anything... but seems to me as this thread won't go any further...

whiterabbit: will mentioning this thread be enough for the free labor offer?

I have a 2001 HX Coupe and it took me a year to get it the way I want it.
The biggest difference was the set of four Bridgestone Turanzas 95 x 65 x 14
tires. They are much quieter, stop well in wet and are warranteed for 80K miles. The steering also centers better. Honda did have to upgrade a part
in the transmission (CVT) because it made a vibration at low RPM with the
old part. The dealer will paint your mirrors - you can't do it yourself because
those colors don't come in small cans. I paid $16,500 including AC, remote keyless, mats, trunk liner, wheel locks and cruise control. The CD player
was $200 extra. The nice thing about the AC is that you can't tell when
it goes on! And I LOVE my CVT. Good luck.

I have a 2001 HX with CVT. I paid $16,500 including AC, remote keyless, cruise, wheel locks, mud guards and trunk liner. I added a CD player ($200), washable air filter, lamb's wool seat covers, and a rosewood dash. I get 37.5 MPG on a trip. The
only down was a vibration at low RPM which Honda fixed with an upgrade part for the
transmission. The original tires were noisy and slippery in wet so I got four Bridgestone
Turanzas in 95/65/14. They are much quieter and stop well in wet. Waranteed for
80K miles and cost $80 each. The car is Clover Green Pearl which is now discontinued.
The red is nice.
Good Luck
