since it is axle back, the resonator is still on keeping it quiet.
replace the midpipe with 2.25" mandrel bent piping and you will get the sound you are you are looking for after about 500 miles

Not that I'm against exhausts, sometimes you can pick out a civic with a swapped engine by its exhaust note. THat's pretty cool. But when I hear the buzz of a D series engine filling the whole block, that gives me a good laugh.
Be happy that your exhaust isn't loud. That's one less person to be peeved about when I'm sleeping 2 in the morning.

Alright is removing the resonater illegal? And I do have a manual transmission..
You have to think of the big scheme of things. For the price you pay theres no beating a civic performance wise or style. Tell me one car that costs less that is better?? Everyones always talking about BMW this.. My Lexus is so much better blah blah..
Think.. Think. Price ussually has alot to do with performance and quality but with honda thats not the case.. (pay less to have more)

Oh yeah.. and umm. Why do people always Rice and on a budget. Just because someone can't afford full cat back exhaust or getting their body kit painted.. or even a CAI compared to a SRI. Just because we don't have the money for an engine swap or a turbo doesn't mean we are riced out. We are just getting the best little upgrades we can to give our car a tiny bit more juice than the stockers have.. I don't like millions of performance stickers on a 1985 accord with a stock engine well over 300,000 miles but thats not what I am talking about..

Mufflers and headers
hey all this is robert from BigJoshRacing.com, and I am a dealer of exhaust products. There is alot of factors that make up sound in your car, the cheapest and easy way to get more sound is to remove your resonator, this should cost about 30 or 40 bucks at your local muffler shop. The larger your exhaust pipe from the motor back to the rear also will affect the sound. the axle back or so called cat back is more or less the same pipe with a diff muffler on it. You will get the same sound from just the muffler as you will the cat back and performance. A pipe is a pipe, a nice cat back is 200 plus bucks, go to a muffler shop and have a 2.25 inch pipe ran all the way from the cat back and a nice muffler for the same price.

axelbacks do jack for performance on our cars for a few reasons
1. our stock piping is 1.75" wide
2. the resonator on that piping is about the size if not larger than your "performance muffler"
to get sound, get a smaller resonator and/or get a bigger pipe

Ok so I may be ignorant, but has anyone ever thought of purchasing a universal muffler, say a major name brand, and taking it to, say MIDAS, and having them put in on with 2.25" piping? I wonder if it's possible and if it's at all cheaper. I'm a college student not looking to go rice but I want some sound for cheap!

Umm the actuall name brand universal mufflers are expensive. Look into the hks hi power rear section or mufflertech.coms rear sections. Muffler tech is cheap but really good for the price I paid 145 shipped. Sounds great too. It isn't to loud but sounds very good, then if you want more sound go to your local muffler shop. Ask them to either A. remove your resonator, B. put a smaller resonator on the stock piping, C.put on 2.25" piping from the cat to the rear section, or D. do the same and have them put on a resonator. You have alot of options. All of them are going to get you more sound than just the rear section put on it. But each is going to change how loud it is going to be here. The shop will do it for more than likely less than or near $100.
Here are your options from loudest to quietest
C - 2.25" piping no resonator
D - 2.25" piping with resonator
A - take off resonator from stock piping
B - put a smaller resonator to stock piping
E - just put on rear section with nothing else
Any options are more than likely going to keep you under $250 if you purchase a rear section from mufflertech.com.
