Re: suspension help HFP

so did anyone actually find the 02 hfp suspension? but i know it does exist as an add on because i have the PDF installation instructions for it somewhere on my computer...it must have been very rare though because most sites will only have the EP3 install instructions posted

Re: suspension help HFP

remember that the 03+ civic have 16mm bolts where as the 01-02 have 14mm.

if u get teh HFP spings+strut then they will be the 16mm ones beucae it was made for the "04-05"

and those use 16mm

there were 14mm versions...they're just very hard to find now since they were discontinued long ago

Re: suspension help HFP

So, I'm in the same boat (want to install a 04-05 HFP suspension kit in my 02 civic coupe) and read all the old threads but not quite sure what I need to do.

What I've gathered from the various threads, is that the rear HFP suspension parts should fit okay without any additional parts. But the front HFP suspension parts may need some additional parts due to some differences between 01-03 and 04-05 models (something about 16mm vs 14mm holes and knuckles and so forth).

Can anyone who has actually done this (installed the 04-05 HFP suspension in an 02 civic coupe) let me know what parts (preferably with part numbers) you needed to make it fit? I've already bought the suspension kit so there's no going back now (didn't realize it wasn't just a 'bolt in' suspension kit when I ordered it) so any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Here is a pic of 2004 front suspension parts with part numbers below -- hopefully this will help someone point out what I need from these 2004 parts to make the HFP kit fit in my 2002 coupe.

Re: suspension help HFP

dont get the HFP suspension. they are over priced and crap for what you get. especially if u have to deal with the 16vs14mm difference in the holes.

just get a new set of tokico blues (which are much cheaper and better imo) and call it a day.

no dilling, no modding, no headache.

Yeah, if I could go back in time I probably wouldn't have bought the HFP suspension kit, but I already have it so there's no going back unless I want to lose money on the kit by selling it on ebay.

So, does the 14 vs 16mm holes/bolt issues mean that there will be drilling or other types of modification needed, rather than just buying the 16mm bolt/nuts? I'm not a DIY car guy and have no idea if the 14 or 16mm bolts screw into some part of the car frame or if it just screws onto the shock/strut assembly (which would just require additional parts).

I tried looking, with no success, for an installation instruction on this HFP suspension kit. Once it arrives, I'll scan it and upload it to sendspace or something if anyone wants to take a look at it.

2002 EX 2-door.

I've compared the part numbers for the shock/strut assemblies of the 2002 vs the 2004 and almost all the parts are the same, except for a rubber piece or two and the 16mm bolts/nuts. Since the 2002 uses 14mm and the 2004 uses 16mm, getting 14mm to 16mm bushings (which someone mentioned in this thread but I didn't know what it meant) would solve the problem hopefully without any drilling or other modifications like that.

I'll make a full comparison of the part differences between 02 and 04 later today.

that is correct. i believe it was either mindbomber or kennykid that was talking about the bushing-adaptors (i believe they were from Ksport).

get those and you can run the 04 suspension. everything else should be the same.

Thanks, although I think I was thinking about this in reverse. Since I have a 2002 civic, which uses 14mm holes/bolts, I will need larger holes since the HFP suspension uses 16mm bolts. So, I guess drilling will be required then?

Hopefully, the Honda dealer I take it to will not put up a big fuss about that, since I'm assuming that it's not a difficult or unusual thing to do (enlarge a 14mm hole/thread to 16mm)?

I'm confused because I don't have enough car knowledge to know how these parts fit together and are installed (I was thoroughly confused by the installation instructions I found online for the 06-08 HFP suspension).

edit: Okay, so now I think I get it -- I would use the 2002 14mm bolts when installing the 2004 HFP suspension, but would need 14mm to 16mm bushing washers (or is it reducers?) so that it would fit on the HFP suspension which has 16mm holes. I don't know why this is so hard for me to wrap my head around (well, obviously it's because I don't know how these parts fit together).

But is using the 14 to 16mm bushing washers/reducers as 'sturdy' and reliable an option as the alternative, that is, enlarging the holes on my 02 civic from 14 to 16mm? I'm not sure how big the washer is (and I assume it would 'screw' on like a nut) but couldn't it 'fall out' of the hole or something if you're unlucky? I'll have a better idea once I get the kit...
