honda860 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
they should work just fine. the only real difference between the 03 to the 05's is the body style front and back bumpers etc. the engine bay and suspension setup are the same. Im in the same boat I have an 05 EX SE working on suspension myself after i get some more cash to blow

from what i understand all struts/shucks/coilovers made for 7th gen will fit 01-03 but not 03-05 without some mods.

No. 01 has different upper mount bearings that 02+. Also, 03+ has 16mm mount bolts rather than the 14mm mount bolts in the 01-02. Also, regardless of the years, some shocks are 50mm and some are 55mm.

No you're measuring the cylinder of the shock body itself.

with the strut housings, yes. The mounts might need to go with it too though, but boiler is better able to handle that part.

i read that you can put the RSX front struts or something, cuz they're 55mm or something.. can someone confirm that?

does Koni make any other struts that fit the 03-05 civic other than the yellow? i've only seen yellow. i just want a low looking ride without the freaken bumpy a$$ ride.

Not with the 04 housings. 16 mm holes in the housing, 14mm holes in the knuckle. Thats a no no, the strut with wiggle.

Koni only makes the yellow for the RSX/EP3/EM/ES. They don't make too many applications of anything else because the yellow is simply so popular, durable, flexable and reliable. You can use RSX struts because they have the 16mm crash bolts, but they're no more durable or receptive to lowering than the shocks already on the car. Its not exactly an upgrade, its more of a lateral move.

Basically:

2001-2002 = 14mm holes with 50mm shocks
2003-2005 = 16mm holes with 55mm shocks

2001-2003 or 2003-2005 have the same basic setup when it comes to suspension...the main difference between the two is the exterior and some interior redesigned. the 03 has the exterior of an 01-02 vics while the it has the interior of an 04-05. i have an 03 and used and 01-02 setup and works perfectly fine...secondly, 01-05 have the same chasis...sooooooo 01-02 setups can fit 04-05

Blahman240 is on a distinguished road
not sure if anyone covered it yet but... the lower front bolts that mount the strut to the control arm in the front are smaller on 01-03's and bigger on 04-05's so you need to drill them out a bit, a drill press works wonders in this case.

There is waaaay too much misinformation in this thread.

ALL 2001 models have 50mm struts and 14mm crash bolts. The upper bearing is also different from the 2002-2005 bearings.
Sometime in 2002, honda figured out there was an issue with the struts, rather than **** around with it, they homologated the Si and EM/ES parts pile, and began using the 55mm struts that seemed to be more durable than the 50mm ones. There is no way of telling whether a given 2002 has 50 or 55 mm housings, its random as they phased them in and cleared the old stockpile of 50s out, therefore you must measure your housings. 2002s have 14mm crash bolts and the revised upper bearing that fixed the steering knock issue on the 01s.
By the 2003 model year it is believed that ALL the cars have 55mm struts. More homolgation took place and the 03s adopted the 16mm knuckles and crash bolts from the Si.
2004 and 2005 saw no major changes to the suspension.

2001 and 2002 are directly interchangeable
2003-2005 are directly interchangeable
2001 and 2002 struts can be modified to fit an 03-05 by drilling out the holes in the strut bracket, or by adding a 1mm sleeve to the knuckle bore.
2003-2005 struts CANNOT be used in 01 or 02 model year cars.

We're done here.

Re: are 01-03 suspension same as 04-05 suspension?

^^ I just learned this issue putting struts in yesterday. 01-02 struts in my 03. For future reference, not only do they require being drilled out larger they seem to lack the ABS line mount as well.
