7th gen bad shock and strut curse?

im wondering if it is only our generation of civics that have cheap quality shocks and struts. cus i know if i throw my goldlines on right now, in a few weeks the shocks will blow. my friend has a 95 civic hatch wiht a 2 inch drop and his STOCK shocks and struts are fine! he put the springs on back in sepetember. Hes even the car everyday even in the snow!
So does anyone know?

it won't necessarly blow, it's all up to different factors, from tempature, condition of the road, drop and other things. vnlilman can explain it further in details. but i've had mine install for a coupel months now, and it's not blown

There is always a probability of them blowing when you lower you car, wether it be 1" or 2.5". Goldlines are kind of low and from what I have heard, are also a soft spring. It also depends on how you drive you car (if you drive it hard or normal), the roads (my shocks wouldn't last 2 min lowered in Baltimore!), the temp/humidity, how much crap you carry in your car/trunk. Usually, the lower the drop, the increased likelyhood that the stock shocks will fail because they aren't meant to be compressed down so much ALL the time. Every car is different. It isn't that we have cheap shocks and struts, but every car is made differently. You are only comparing ONE previous gen civic to a few people on this site. There are a lot of people who lower without busting their shocks.

I just got back from picking up my car from Honda Dealership and they told me both front struts were blown. I don't have anything suspension-wise except stock equipment. They told me the parts are on "national back-order" and that there will likely be a recall (or at least a TSB) soon. I'm putting the full details in a different thread.
