Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Need Advice on my suspension setup...I have a 01 ES1, with Eibach Sportlines and Tokico D-Spec's in the rear, stock struts in the front. I am unhappy with the way my car sits. It rakes back and I have about 1 finger gap in rear and almost 3 in the front. I want 1 finger all around but am not sure if I should just sell what I have and buy coilovers (Progress) or maybe buy front struts and maybe some Ground Control's. From what I have been reading GC's are always suggested to be run with Koni's, will Tokico D-Specs work with GC? I love my D-Specs that I have and would like to buy the fronts but if I won't be able to put a coil over sleeve on them then I would rather not spend the money and get something that will work. Thanks.
its a hard and expensive lesson huh?
option1: if you decide to keep your rear strut (Dspec) then i suggest you get front Dspec. you do not want to mix match struts because each brand has their set valving/dampening rates.
then in order to correct this, you would want to sell ur current springs and buy some groundcontrol.
here is the basic cost break down:
sell springs: +$150
buy front Dspec: -$400
buy GC: -$350
net cost: $600
option 2: just sell everything, buy progress
sell springs +$150
sell rear Dspec +$100 (at most for the rear)
buy progress $1000
net cost $750
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Yea it is!! Lesson learned. I think I might go with the d-specs and ground control's. The Progress look really nice but since I already have the rears and ill be able to adjust the dampening on all four corners I think ill go with that. I know you can order custom spring rates from GC, will they suggest to me the best spring rate to go with the d-specs? I read that they are good for a 2.5inch drop but I know that if any damper isn't matched well with a spring they can prematurely fail or cause a crappy ride/handling. The people at GC seem to know there stuff and wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction.

something to note with groundcontrol... make sure you buy the CORRECT GC becase they will be made to fit to your specific dampener/strut.
so my GC for my koni will not fit your Dspec (at least not perfectly).
so what im saying is when you order it thru GC, make sure u tell them it will be for the Dspec.
also, i would recomend you buy it ONLY from GC directly, because if u buy it somewhere else, GC/eibach may NOT honor the lifetime warranty..and yes they do have lifetime warranty. (and their customer service at GC is GREAT)

If you really want Progress, there's someone selling a set for $400 on CRSX, you'd need RSX tie rod ends to make them work though.

GOLNAT, if u have an 01-02... i suggest you consider these
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...-hub-only.html
KW are a very very very good brand of suspension (much better than progress... no offense progress fans)

yea. the GC are the best option as far as coil sleeves are concerned. i have them paired with yellows. great great stuff.

Did you have a problem with the GC not going low enough on your Koni's?
I'm not sure how low I will able to go because of the perches. I was reading somewhere that people usually cut them off of there Tokico's so that they can go lower.
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Thanks for looking out MindBomber. I have registered for CRSX and I am going to see if they are still for sale. If I could get them for $300 then I can probably get some money together to buy them and buy a replacement for the leaking front strut. Im not completely sure on what I want to do yet, either stick with the adjustability of D-Specs and GC's or go with Progress or the KW's.

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Thanks for the info! I will definitely consider the KW setup. I do not have the money now but I might be able to come up with something if I decide to go that route. I was leaning toward the GC since I will have more adjustability with the D-specs and GC's but I am not sure yet.

So they will go plenty low.

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
I would just suggest you save ur money until you are fully ready to commit.
Remember that buying "used" suspension is a gamble. They tell you it ont has a few thousand miles on it but I'm willing to bet there is a **** ton miles on it.
Sure some of them can be rebuilt but that's gonna cost you more $$$ and the turn around time will not be as quick as you'd wish.
Your smartest decision is prob just going to get new d specs and gc. New. That way you also have warranty on them.
Warranty does not transfer to 2nd owner with kw or progress.

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Yea your right, I'll take my time with it. The lifetime warranty on everything will be really nice and I plan on keeping the car for a while. I dont want the hassle of dealing with used stuff. Thanks for the help. Just need to save up some money and call GC.
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
so im probably gonna do coils soon kruds tein street basis are cheap but he said they are softer than stock i know i cant ask for too much with a price range around 900 but what other coils out there offer a pretty stiff ride for less than 1000
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Ground Control coilovers and Konis or Tokico's would be good. You can order custom spring rates from Ground Control and they match the springs to the dampers. It should be under 1k but it might be close.

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
I will try to torque the lock nut a bit tighter and adjust the spring seats to add more compression without sacrificing much clearence. Basic mods like a rear sway bar, subframe brace, and sturt bar can all help stiffen the rear a little (strut bar not so much).

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
A rear sway bar is the only modification that will have effect on performance, of the three you listed.
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
More preload will also stiffen it and the only mod listed that will help would be the sway bar.
Edit: Mind posted before me about the mods....

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Yup, that's the first thing most people gain an understanding of and where most people stop. The next phase of learning is more of a challenge, it's easy to memorize that a sway bar is beneficial but more difficult to understand why.
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
me too.. most people look at a car like its an intricate piece of engineering (which it is) and only professionals can fix things I did for a while but then my perspective changed and when i see a car i see nuts and bolts and heavy lifting thats all there is to it pretty much and once one gains that perspective they can stop throwing their money away to a mechanic charging 80 bucks an hour for labor lol

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
ohhhh okay lol im looking at the koni site right now and there is a 20% off sale i can get all 4 shocks for 604 should i hop on that now? what are some other good shock brands i know of tokico but idk how good they are so any input is appreciated!
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Of all the suspension mods and what everyone has discussed it seems the Koni with GC's and progress are the most frequently purchased.
Koni's yellows will allow you the adjustment needed to slam or mildly lower your ride. However you will need to modify the Koni's to get the right fitment... its not a bolt on and go.
Progress full coil set is a bit more expensive but should be a MUCH easier install. use stock top hast and maybe some mild modification to get a perfect fitment but I personally would go progress.
YOU need to decide what you want and depending on your ability to self install Koni's or Progress. For a first timer the progress may be the "easier" route. Do some research on both, make a list of wants/needs (how low? ride quality? stiffness? etc.) and see what fits you best (wallet included)

Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
That's a pretty good deal, but I've seen new Konis go for cheaper in the past. Tokicko HPs (aka "Blues")will also work. They won't let you slam the GC as low, but they don't need to be modified to fit like the Yellows do and they're a bit cheaper. For your car and situation, that would be a wise setup. If you don't want to do so much modification, go with my TEIN coilovers or Skunk2 Pro-S II. They aren't the most reputable coilovers, but they are plenty good for what you need them for.

^^ I agree here. if your looking for a solid product at a reasonable price The Pro S II's and the Tein Basis are both perfect options. The best part about coils are the adjustability.
Pro S II's - retail for $950 (but can be foud for as low as $800-$850) I got mine for $700 NEW of ebay on a "best offer" auction. I love them. Exactly the ride I wanted stiff but not back breaking and EASY to adjust.
Tein Basis ~$850 - All you have to do is read Krud's review. Great info there.
Whether you choose coils or strut/spring combo is up to you, your pocket, and what type of ride your lookin for.
Re: Official Suspension Drop Pictures Post
Sorry to thread jack a bit here but I just read through this and if everyone remembers I bought some used ep3 ground controls that were on stock shocks. I wasn't aware that there were different sleeves for the brand of shock so I then bought some tokico blues for an ep3 for the sleeves to go on. Am I royally screwed now or is there some way to make this work?
