Look at the polished metal shaft, that's the damper piston, if it has oil on it then the seals are blown and you need to replace the shocks and struts. Alternatively, a good method is pushing down on one corner of the car, if it rebounds more than once then they're life span is also done. The shocks and struts dampen and control the spring, once they're blown the spring will have nothing to control it and will just bounce all over the place.
Kyb gr-2 is a decent OE replacement, but even not dropped, tokico hp would be an excellent choice.

^because they are a great product that has proven themselves. they are not expensive, come with a lifetime warranty, and really balance the car's handling properly, even on stock springs.

Tire pressure drops significantly in the winter when temperatures drop!
I have a habit of checking the tire pressure and oil level the first week of every month.

Hi, I need some help with my 2001 Honda Civic LX 4DR 4 Speed AT. My front stock struts are leaking and I need a decent replacement for everyday city driving (Minneapolis, in winters lots of snow and curvy roads). Could you suggest me the most economical option, I like whatever is OEM now and unless broken would not replace anything. I found sensa, premium OEM (overstock auto) monroe sensa track, gabriel, KYB, Tokico on ebay and I am highly confused. I have 88K, miles on the car, bought it from a dealer and plan to keep the car for 2 years and drive from home to work (40 miles all total). Sensa is cheap so is the OEM but not sure how long will they last. What do you suggest?

1. great improvement over stock OE struts. they are just about as soft and wont make ur ride bumpy or stiff (i use this variable loosely, but it applies here)
2. it has a LIFE TIME WARRANTY. means if it EVER blows, send it in and they will send you a new one. the only thing to consider is you MUST buy from an authorized dealer (most ebay dealers are not). i would suggest autoanything.com
3. they are proven reliable by many many many many members on this board.
4. its not that much more expensive than the other ones. a few bucks, but remember, LIFETIME warranty (other dont offer this)

Re: 2 Questions.
Thanks for the info, and so do I get the full strut assembly (quick struts) or just the strut, because my friend is a mechanic and he said he has done that strut replacement on several vehicles. Would it not be a good idea to first check in what condition the mounts, dust boots and spring is in and can they be reused before deciding. I found replacing part by part is more expensive and laborious.

If you are only going to keep it a couple of years cheap will work. If longer go with the kyb or tokico. had a 96 accord installed 4 kyb in 2002, my sister has it now and they still feel good. kyb also has buy 3 get one free. just put gr-2 on my new 2001 ex to cure some noises.
