Airbag Suspension info?

Can anyone help me find airbag suspension information for 7th gens?

I don't really know anything about them but I came across this kit when I was doing some searches:
http://www.airbagit.com/product-p/fbs-hon-26-kit3.htm

Are they easy to install? What are the benefits? How are they, performance wise? Are they "for show only" type thing, or can they deliver?

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

Easy to install, should be like a cross between a turbo kit and a set of coilovers.

Benefits, the ability to raise the car up and down allows you to run very large rims since you can raise the car up for driving, eliminating rub. If you wanted to run 20'' or 21'' wheels air is one of the only options. It will also allow you to go extremely low, further down than any coilover ever could.

I don't think they perform that well, all the guys I know with them are more hella flush than hella functional.

They definitely aren't just for show, I can think of two people local to me who daily drive bagged cars.

That airbag kit is insanely cheap.. quality may be lacking a bit.

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

k-sport has bag kits for earlier gens between $2500-3000, but I haven't seen one for our cars. There's just that one $2100 ebay kit, which looks to be the equivalent of an ebay turbo kit in all honesty.

For less than the cost of bags you can get very good coilovers with custom valving to make them ideal for daily driving, and have the dampening adjustable to optimize them for spirited driving. For someone who really wants to have coilover performance, with height adjustment as well, you can also get adjustable height kits that mount on top of coilovers.

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

Air bags are great for cruising (ride very smoothly). They are great for shows you can park your car on the ground with them. They are pretty crappy for performance.

Sorry to revive al older thread, I was just reading this again and I guess I missed this part of you post. What do you mean adjustable height kits? Like being able to adjust the hight without getting out of the car?

Yes, not sure if they have a kit especially designed for our cars, but they might..

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

Wow, thats basically the whole appeal of having Airbag Suspension to me, but with the performance of Coils.

At 1:00 in this video it says "works in conjuncture with your existing coilovers" So does that mean it can be used on anything? hmm... What else do you know about these?

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

It's basically a top mount, designed to work with KW coilovers, which are available for our chassis. I'm pretty sure the system could be utilized on an em2, more research would be needed..

Would you like to email the company about this? or should I? :P I kinda was hoping they could be used with AMR's since those are the coils I would want if I got any.
How much are KW's?

$1300 I think?

You email them, I won't be using this system on my em2, I definitely might on my next car, but that's a awhile away. Umbrella's website sucks..

$3200...

expensive, not sure if worthwhile, depending on the car it might be to avoid scrapping...

KW builds their own kit as well..

I was reading this thread, with the creator talking about them. They look pneumatic, where the KW ones are hydraulic

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

to say the least lol.I wouldn't get them for my EM2. At least not this one, if my plan to get an 05 Ex in the next year or so doesn't change (like mid 2013? assuming i still have a good job and am making good money).

But what i liked about airbags is that you can go up over speed bumps easy without sacrificing being low; But this will give you just that, with the performance of coilovers.
Though you couldn't ride on these lifted i don't think, they're just a short time only thing to get over stuff, unless you wanna mess something up.

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

I don't see why couldn't ride on them lifted, if they're like mini air bags.

Lamborghinis have utilized a hydraulic lift system in the front to help with getting over speed bumps and such for years.

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

Hmm, maybe, but it would throw off the handling, no? And if you can ride on them lifted, then that's even better.

Lambo's got that after Audi bought them I believe.

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

Top Gear is an endless source of quotes haha

If you ride with them lifted there would be a bit of positive camber, but that should be the only issue. It all comes down to the design of the airbag and whether or not it's capable of supporting the car for extended periods.

Re: Airbag Suspension info?

I want the greatest EM2 ever made. But that would run me like 30k after everything is said and done :P From Suspension, to Engine (Boosted K20a? lol), I.C.E. and Interior, and clean exterior with Retro fit headlights, OEM Reverb kit. Paint would be OEM NHBP or Tafeta white, Rims would be EM1 rims colour matched to body. Then LED underglow just to top it all off lol

Well, that's both good and bad news.

Good - It's available on for our cars.

Bad - Now I want it!
